Douglass was unclear about what he expected from the class and punished the class when we did not live up to his expectations. His lectures were very broad and theoretical, leaving me more confused with what we were learning. He did not do a good job focusing on the information that would help us succeed in the class, but left us in the dark.
He seems to care more about teaching and literature than other teachers at UCSB. He takes time to explain the details but he doesn't dumb the material down, and he spends time with individual students, getting to know them and their work. Exactly what a professor should be.
Excellent professor. Genuine, warm, and highly intelligent. The class was pretty broad in scope, which is to be expected for an intro lit study class. Work load is light considering many non-english majors take this as a GE. Really enjoyed the class, highly recommended.
Very passionate about his subject, super nice in and out of class, and genuinely cares about his students. I loved the class and material and would strongly recommend it. He does have an odd fashion sense, however; be prepared for lots of bowling shirts and hats.
I was not an avid technology fused fiction reader, but Jeremy provided each student with the materials to be thouroughly enthralled in the literature and subject matter. Discussions were always provocative and very hands-on. Sometimes held class on AIM, and last class was a pizza party. I ended up with an A in the class.
Great class, interesting books, extremely helpful prof. You will get the grade that you want, he allows re-writes on essays. One of the texts was a comic, which opened up a new world to me. I now respect the graphic novel as high art, really, really respectable material.
excellent teacher. understanding, passionate, and truly cares for his work and his students. not horribly difficult, either.
passionate professor, insightful, at times enlightening even. I enjoyed the class thoroughly and thought his lectures were always interesting. Although highly evocative, he sometimes gets sidetracked and dispersed in his focus.
Jeremy is a decent teacher..although he could definitely clarify his focus and be more straightforward with his papers. I got an easy A..half the classes held in computer labs, so enjoy AIM and make eye contact. Nice guy though, obsessed with computers!
