He's hilarious. A fun and super easy class...by far one of my favorites. I recommend taking any class you can from him. The final had many of the same questions as the midterm.
Easy class. I didn't read of the of the books and got a B+. Sometimes his lectures get way off topic, but he usually makes the class at least once a lecture. Good GE to take.
He is funny at times and sometimes he makes senseless jokes. He wants students to give opinions in class but then makes fun of them. I enjoyed the books, though. I did all my work, read everything, attended class and was not content with my grade. He has favorites in class who hardly did their work or attended class and got A+. Poor grader.

Really easy class... the midterm was harder than the final because he expects you to remember one word out of the whole text, but the final was really easy. The paper is no problem, but the lectures always seemed extremely irrelevant. I didn't learn much from him. But I didn't read the books, barely went to lecture and still got an A
Even though he can be hilarious at times, the class still drags on. Midterm and final are easy, but only if you go to lecture.
this guy is funny as heck! good sense of humor. its the only reason i went to every lecture. the class was easy overall.
His tests could not be easier. The class is not that interesting and sometimes his lectures are pretty confusing, but everything he says is straight out of his book.
Very funny lecturer at times, but it often seemed as if his lectures had no relevance and it was not at all obvious what he was trying to teach us. The tests were fairly essay ids and in-class essays.
Huang is the best professor I have had in my 4 yrs at UCSB. His lectures are like puzzles, his book is brilliant, and as long as you do the little bit of reading he assigns, you're good to go. Also, very good sense of humor! Take a class with him; you will be awed.
hes hilarious, cracks jokes to keep you entertained in class. his tests are easy just make sure to write down his definitions on his slides in class. if you want and easy A take this class.
very easy class, easy grader small quizes are easy I barely read for this class and got an A , the final paper was a little tricky because you have to make up your own prompt but he's open to anything which doesn't make it that bad at all love love love this class, I wasn't interested until i took this class lots of fun!
I take every class I can from him.

This class was super easy and really interesting. Professor Huang has a unique perspective on the world, English, and the way students learn. He really wants you to gain more insight about the world and less about much textbook knowledge you gain...totally worth it for a gpa booster!
skip this class. lectures boring and not helpful. Lectures are thinly connected to reading, and even then you have to really look for any possible connection. He didn't bother to give us a prompt for the first graded paper, and his comments were vague and unhelpful. also didn't give topic for final paper, so grading VERY subjective. SKIP!
He's a good professor and really entertaining. I've taken three classes with him and really enjoyed them.
Had a great time in this class. We read some really interesting books, and his lectures are really entertaining. He goes off on a lot of tangents during class, so you may not get too much from the lectures, but he is very, very funny. Pretty easy grader; would definitely take one of his classes again.
So, the reading in this class did stress me out. We read Moby-Dick in 2 weeks. BUT, his lectures are GREAT. I loved his 104A class lectures and these were just as great. He is funny. Sure the quizes were a pain, but after a couple I could guess what words he'd want us to remember. Plus, only 2 papers and no tests! :)
Professor Huang took four difficult texts and made them accessible by providing an inspirational academic environment that encourged class discussion and participation. This class was challenging, but also entertaining and memorable.
He is a very intelligent man. He gets off the subject all the time very regularly. He likes to think outside the box and likes to make jokes about the reading material and everything else.
horrible, horrible professor! when he gave quizzes, they were basically fill in the blank questions from massive books like moby dick. he expects you to remember one stupid word in the whole book! sometimes funny. attendance is MANDATORY so you'll never have the option to not go!
easy class even for engineering students - Huang tries very hard to be funny and is always interesting -- likes to go on random tangents
Smart man... if you give him a chance and listen it is impossible to not learn something
