He is always caring for students and willing to help them. Exams are somewhat difficult but he offers bonus points as long as you would like to put efforts.
Dr. Zhou is super accessible outside of class in office hours. His midterm extra credit is helpful, and his in depth study guides make sure students know the general flavor of exams. He will never give you a problem you have seen before on an exam, but with studying, they are certainly do-able.
its a really hard class but prof zhou is super understanding, is willing to help you understand the material, and is very accessible outside of lectures. he also offered extra credit opportunities for the midterms by doing reflections and presentations.
The lectures were clear and engaging, significantly enhancing my comprehension of the material. Additionally, Prof Zhou's generosity with extra credit opportunities reflected a sincere commitment to student success.
Excellent teaching. Patient and welcoming to students' questions, and explain concepts in detail. He motivates students to really understand the concepts instead of memorizing them. These negative comments are only due to the difficulty of his exam, but he made it clear from the start that there won't be repetitive questions. Will take again.

His low reviews are just people who have low grades. Yes his exams are difficult and he actually grades your homework on accuracy but you get what you put into the class. Prof Zhou is amazing and I would take his class if the opportunity ever arises again.
Really accessible after class and kind, you can always attend his OH, and he's willing to help. You can get bonus points for midterms by presenting in class or in OH. Lectures make the textbook more understandable.
Professor Zhou is a very kind person, and I can tell he really wants his students to succeed. He lectures by doing problems on lecture notes. The class was easy and the practice tests provided were very helpful. I definitely recommend professor Zhou's class.
I had a hard time because I did not find his lectures engaging. However, he was willing to adjust his plan for the class in order to help us succeed. I think he was very kind but I would avoid taking his class in the future if I can.
I really appreciated the course's structure. The professor delivered detailed, clear lectures that made tough concepts manageable and provided a solid foundation for homework and exams. He was also highly accessible for help outside class.
I really did appreciate how kind Prof. Zhou was and how open he was to making changes to the course/exams in order to help the class succeed.
Very kind, Very organized, and Very engaging professor. He puts great effort into making the class interactive and accessible to students from diverse backgrounds. I gained a lot and feel inspired to continue with the linear algebra series, hoping to have him as my instructor again. I highly recommend this professor to other students!
This class was so easy, practice exams were basically the tests given. Webwork hw was also so similar to the tests. Also get a cheatsheet and extra credit. The final avg was a 55%, but I thought it was insanely easy. The other people in class prob weren't trying tbh. Also lecture notes are posted, so don't even go. Easiest class I've taken here.
This is my first upper course. I worried about failing this course but prof Zhou asked us to focus on learning fundamental. In the end, he curved generously. 59% of weight grades get C.
This class was really tough for me, but Professor Zhou did an amazing job explaining all the complicated terms and was super generous with grading. Plus, he is such a kind person that I never felt nervous about asking “silly” questions about basic math stuff during office hours. Hard class, but an awesome professor!
The professor gave us a really detailed guide for practice exams, including side-by-side comparisons between exam problems and WebWork, which was super helpful. Honestly, there was nothing to complain about. As an international student, I was shocked to see how many people still cheated during the exam, even we were allowed to use an A4 cheatsheet.
Worst professor I have had at UCSB. Extremely rude to students and wants you to fail. First midterm and final average were in the 50% range and he claimed that was ideal. DO NOT TAKE HIM.
class is graded on webwork, two midterms, & a final (best exam is weighed more, +10%). he listened to criticism, adding partial credit & offering points back after midterm 1. his practice exams were almost identical to the real ones + you can use a cheat sheet on all exams. clas tutorial groups were more helpful in explaining the material :/
Honestly nothing to complain about. You're expected to know lecture + textbook content and that's what's on the exams. Exams consistently averaged 50-60% but curved GENEROUSLY at the end.
Horrible lectures, and even worse exams. Simply does not teach material that is presented on exams. Do not take
Would not recommend. Confusing lectures and very difficult tests. Mean for final was 55% take porter
averages of 55% on a math 34B final is kinda insane. take porter
Prof shared an announcement after the final, saying ChatGPT found a high level of similarity between the practice exam and the final. AI Era 🤣
