Majewski is my all-time favorite History professor! As a HPPL major a lot of my classes can feel boring and unengaging at times as the lectures aren't interesting but I show up to all of his classes because he is such a great speaker. The reading isn't necessary but helps make writing the papers a lot easier. Also can turn in notes for extra credit
Majewski is one of the best professors I've had in the history department. His lectures are really organized, and he speaks so you're able to get down the powerpoint slides AND what he's talking about. Reading was also really interesting. As long as you go to class and study the midterm questions he gives you, you're golden.

I love Prof. Majewski! He is one of my favorite teachers I've ever had. Make sure you go to office hours because he is very kind and helpful, as well as interesting. The class is very engaging, and he teaches the civil war sort of like telling a story. He is the best!!!
He is awesome, great lecture, makes it really intersting, not very hard. I actually feel like I learned something
Loved his class! His knowledge on the subject is seemingly limitless and he obviously loves to teach. Very interesting material to begin with, and he brings it to life in a way you can't help but enjoy. Highly recommended course and professor. If you have the chance, don't miss him!
Loved this class! I never missed a lecture and actually enjoyed them. Very clear and organized take good notes cause it helps for midterms and finals. He gives out a study guide for midterm and final so you don't have to read til then! Great professor!
Great teacher!!! If you have any interest in the civil war or just want to learn about it, take this class. His lectures are interesting and insightful, and you learn more about this topic than you would ever learn in High School. Readings were great and not the run of the mill stuff. A+++++
Professor Majewski is a blessing of a man. He is very clear and well spoken in his lectures, and he will give students opportunities to succeed. I took HIST 164C for my American History Requirement. All assignments were take home (not hard at all) and he recorded Friday lectures, plus he was ok with ChatGPT if you follow his guidelines and rules.
I love professor Majewski! Great slides and lecture format, made our Friday lecture recorded, and gave clear grading criteria for papers. Understand the broad historical concepts in the course and you'll do well.
He's a chill guy and offers plenty of extra credit opportunities. The textbook was a bit expensive so keep that in mind. Otherwise, a pretty great class.
Majewski was a wonderful teacher and super interesting guy to learn history from. Class had only 3 papers and no final which was amazing, he also made Friday classes online which is nicer than 99% of teachers. Only thing was TA was not very friendly and she expected way too much out of section, way too harsh of a grader imo. But Majewski is great!
Majewski was great! I loved this course and would definitely take a class taught by him again.
The professor has amazing lectures that keep my attention the entire time. The only issue is that your entire grade is based on 3 papers and my TA graded pretty harshly. I guess it depends on which TA you get though. Overall great class.
I loved Majewski so much. He even came to my section and discussed with students which was really cool and unlike any class I've had. He really cares about the students and puts time into his lectures. He also has no midterm/final and made the Friday class on Canvas so students didn't have to come in. 100/10 would take again.
Dr. Majewski is one of my favorite professors. I've taken a few other courses with him and I plan on taking as many as his classes as I possibly can. Interesting readings, paper requirements are clear and graded fairly. Can't say enough good things about him.
Class graded by 2 essays and 2 short reading responses (Final essay was cancelled due to TA strike). Fair amount of reading but the material was interesting and his lecturing style is easy to understand.
Professor Majewski has been my favorite professor so far at UCSB he is so caring and always has his students best interest at heart. Some ta's grade a little harshly, but I think getting a B in this course is super achievable.
TA grades everything, had bad luck got a harsh ta and took it P/NP. clicker everyday, too much reading
History has always been my favorite subject so this class automatically had my interest. The era took place from early 19th century through early 20th century. Majewski was great professor who had a genuine interest in the class, I enjoyed 17B. My TA was a bit annoying however but still did well.
Pretty interesting class. But the papers are graded very hard so it is a must to start in advance and ask for help. I got a B and B+ on my papers but still managed an A- because participation and attendance are such a huge part of the grade. I would recommend this class but it's not for the procrastinator.
Such a great professor. You get a lot out of lecture so I would suggest going; he's a great lecturer so he makes the material interesting. You need the reader!! (the textbook, not so much) Also, start your papers in advance. They are graded fairly but make sure to utilize your TA's office hours.
A is definitely possible…two papers, no midterm, two essay questions on final. Write a rough draft and go to TA's office hour before you turn in your paper!
He was a little boring but class was fairly easy. His power points were really helpful and the primary source texts are definitely needed, but not so much the textbook. Enjoyed his lectures and section discussions were helpful for the essays. No midterm, but 2 papers and an essay final.
