Hes a really good professor, but its really easy to put EEMB on the back burner for MCDB. Stay on top of both, go to clas to prevent you from cramming. Tests should be straightforward as long as you stay on top of it. Iclickers arent graded and he reviews material in the first 15 min of lecture. Also tells you what to expect on the test
The literal worst, the labs are completely disorganized and the practicals test on tiny details with not enough time to answer the questions. The manual is horrible, and there's no guidance on the research project. WAY too much work for 1 unit.
Latto is very funny and gives interesting lectures. Easy to pay attention because he likes to tell stories about the concepts to help you remember them. Not too much content, but goes into depth so you really know the concepts and it's not just memorization. Know how to apply to the concepts for the exams.
Even is a very straightforward lecturer, and I like how he reviews the previous lecture's concepts at the start of every lesson. He likes to do iClicker questions to help you review the computational problems. Gives lots of examples/experiments about the ecology concepts. Exams are not hard, very to the point.
Honestly Dr. Latto is a wonderful professor. He clearly cares about his students truly grasping and learning something significant from the material. He does not waste your time with endless lists of useless facts, he does an excellent job of tying together seemingly unrelated material. I have taken two of his classes now and would surely recommend
Latto is the best instructor I have had so far at UCSB. Really no bad things about the class besides that it does not fulfill any great GE or Area requirements. Super nice and funny guy, great accent, easy and interesting class. Take him if you have the chance!
Professor Latto is a really great lecturer. He makes jokes and is engaging. I didn't always go to lecture and did fine, but I would highly recommend attending as it makes it easier. There were quizzes every section, as well as weekly reading, but it is all relatively easy. 1 Midterm & 1 Final, as usual.
Amazing professor teaching super interesting material, what more could you want? The entire grade is based on one midterm, the final and weekly quizzes in section but it's all really easy. No textbook and powerpoints are sparse so attendance is a must, but lectures are entertaining so it's fine.
Well- planned content, excellent lecture which makes the course more interesting.
too much work! should be worth way more than 1 unit!!!!!!!!
She has written down on the course policies that she gives makeup exams but she doesn't. Says you can contest your grade but when I complained about a grading mistake on my practical (and I'm 100% sure), the staff refused to fix it. Reuses questions she threw out other quarters because 1/2 students got another very close answer.
negligent, incompetent, disorganized, lazy
Several videos to watch in order to take a weekly quiz, reading the lab manual before lab, a ridiculous amount of questions in the manual that you need to answer, two practicals, and a fat research project without ANY guidance and sources that hardly make sense or cover necessary material. Good luck!
Trust me, too much work for 1 unit class. Lab manual is so unorganized
I'm going to come off as so extra but I swear, this is most disorganized class that I've ever taken w the most disorganized lab manual that I've ever read. The lab manual constantly has conflicting information in it, is written out of order, is so grammatically incorrect and vague, etc. yet we are graded on our knowledge of extremely specific info
A true gem of a professor. He made EEMB a breeze, and his lectures were the most entertaining I have seen at UCSB. Incredible professor who clearly takes time and effort into pushing his students in the right direction. His stories were memorable, and helps my recall of the class even after I no longer need most of the material.
He's really knowledgable about the subject and has a passion for teaching. He talks more indepth in lecture than just off the slides so go to lecture if you want to do well. Although his exam questions ask for way too much imo and I barely finish in time & my hand is dead afterwards. He wants everyone to do well so class and really cares about you.
Super interesting lectures! There are only a few quizzes, midterm and final, which are straight-forward if you take good notes. This course is absolutely amazing and interesting. Must attend lectures! Would highly recommend taking his class, you can learn so much from it.
AMAZING LECTURES! I loved this class so much and would want to listen to him talk more about infectious diseases even after he finished lecturing. Few quizzes, midterm and final, which are straight-forward if you take good notes. Lectures are absolutely amazing and interesting. Must attend lectures! Would highly recommend taking his class!
My favorite professor!! I have taken two of his classes and both are easy if you just show up and he makes the class interesting. He puts all of his slides online, but you should still go to class because they have minimal information. Your grade is based on the midterm and final (multiple, vocab, frq) and 4 point quizzes given during section.
Dr. Even is THE BEST PROFESSOR. He is extremely enthusiastic about his subject specialty and makes lectures a joy to come to. He sets you up for SUCCESS. Everything he puts in his powerpoints are crucial to know. I wish every professor was like him. Go to CLAS tutoring! *beware... do well on his portion of the class because Dr. Rice is a menace*
Dr. Even is the best biology professor I've had at UCSB! He has a lot of passion in the subject matter and it shows in his lectures. His powerpoints do not have much info on them and he gives most of the details in class. His exams are pretty long (5 pages mostly short answer) but doable. I highly recommend you take any of his classes.
super awesome professor! class is straightforward and entertaining. tests (2) weren't hard but quizzes (5, 1 dropped) were sometimes confusing/vague. would definitely recommend this professor and this class! (also has occasional jokes and an entertaining accent) also, very little to no reading (for discussion, reading isn't on tests)
EEMB50 with Latto was awesome. The material was always interesting and he's great at explaining difficult concepts. At times this class can feel like a physiology class though. One midterm and final that were straightforward and easy as long as you studied and went to lecture. About 5 quizzes in section. Take this class!!!
