Professor Westmacott is the best linguistic instructor I have met at UCSB! She is very supportive and reachable. I do receive a lot of her help in editing my drafts. Moreover, I love this course material! not very traditional but interestintg

She was one of my favorite teachers! Her class was truly inspiring and helpful. She always prepared interesting group projects and innovative ways of improving public speaking for non-native speakers. I learned a lot about speaking confidently and being able to convey a message thanks to her course materials. I would definitely recommend her class!

A very warm & welcoming professor who responded to emails quickly and was always there to help. I took LING10 Academic Reading & the course work seemed a little heavier than others, but doable. She's a tough grader, but as long as you're improving & participating especially, she's very nice. Her directions with work did seem unclear at times.

It is such an excellent class!! Professor Bowman is a great human being and an excellent instructor!! She created a comfortable and intimate class atmosphere for all of us to share our thoughts. Best Linguistics professor I have ever met so far!!

Awful teacher. Grading unclear, give low scores for ridiculous reasons. (claiming she can't understand the paper while the same paper was highly graded according to another professor) Never responds to your email. Boring lecture, and you won't learn anything from this class!

She only grades the first draft!!!

Useless class. She even taught annotation for a few classes. If you want to learn something, avoid her class.

Mrs. Bowman is an amazing instructor, she is very nice and helpful. She was always glad to help all of her students and happy to receive any suggestions about lectures. But I have to say, she is a tough grader. Anyway, her lectures were helpful and I like her.

She is a really good person! Caring, respond quick, give detailed feedback on everything. The class is not easy, two timed essay. But if you pay attention to everything in class, participate in seminar, and read all the reading (load is okay), you gonna be okay.

Mr.B is a really great teacher. I had her Ling 3C and Ling 12 both online. She was so nice that she gives almost every homework 100% if you finished it well. Just follows her path and you will get a great grade. She even recognized me when I came back to school. Definitely would take her class again.

A tough grader. And the many Fishbows were exhausting.

I learned a lot about writing from her class.

She only grades the rough draft and no credit for the final draft. But she said she would grade all drafts on the syllabus, and no response to my email about that question.

Easy A, generous

She was just bad and unclear on many quizzes questions and do not give any valuable lectures. All you can do is to read a general simple grammar book and figure everything out by yourself. Do not recommend.

She provides material that has no realtionship to the topic her gives. Extremingly demanding and picky on grammar. Aviod her please.

Tough grader, but if you really care about her materials, take them seriously, go to her office hours getting advice for your paper when you got stuck, you can learn a lot in terms of the flow of writing. She does have in-class writing which takes up a decent proportion of the whole grade, but if you have good grammar, getting an A is achievable.

Professor Westmacott's class is the happiest writing class I have taken in UCSB. She has the ability to make tedious writing work to interesting things. You will explore and try lots of new things in her LING12: writing memoir, writing poem, field research, etc. Also, she is not a tough grader. As long as you work hard, you will get an A.

Yes, yes, she is a tough grader; it took me a lot of time (twice as much as a major class) to get an A in that class, but I learned a lot in her class, which made me preform well in the following writing classes. You'll receive detailed feedback and get help from her, work hard! I strongly recommend taking her class in a quarter w/out lots of class
