Her notes can be hard to keep up with, especially considering how many database manipulation examples are given. Does not post these notes on gauchospace and is often very frustrated with students for taking pictures. The midterm is also full of trick questions, even if it seems pretty basic and standard. TAs don't even know whats going on.

The only way you can get material about the course is to record her slides during lecture. Get ready to write and type during class. Old style teaching.

I think this class would be easy if you really tried - I took it with two other tough classes so slacked off a bit and managed a b. worst thing by far about the class is that she goes through A TON of "slides" during lecture, too fast for you to write anything down and DOESN'T POST THEM ON GAUCHOSPACE??? everyone literally took pictures all lecture

Sweet old British lady that knows her stuff, fair and not too workload heavy. I just really wish she would upload her powerpoints because this is an introduction to a coding language and doing prints only on a projector is really hard to write down everything she's saying and the data structures for R as she goes by pretty fast

She is awful. Zero explanation of what she just said.

Great old lady with a delight British accent. I would take 5A though as her two midterms were very convoluted and didn't really come from lecture. Final was easy if you use the 5A (I got a 99). Basically, just take 5A and stay away from this class.

She goes through presentations REALLY fast (skeletons posted later don't cover everything). I focused on writing notes during lectures rather then paying more attention to her and ended up with a D and an F on the midterms. Basically taught myself everything the days before the final, got an 87 on that and a B in the class. I heard 5a is easier.

For me personally, this course was very confusing and frustrating. The 1st midterm is relatively easy and should be taken advantage of; the 2nd midterm is significantly more difficult. Received a B and C respectively on these. Wasn't until I started learning from a PSTAT5A textbook that I finally got it. Got a 96 on the final as a result of this.

Professor Holmes is a super sweet lady. If you go to lecture and section and do a little bit of studying outside of class, you'll be completely fine. 2 midterms were multiple choice and final was free response. Class was curved.

Dawn is a really nice old British lady. She uses an overhead projector & transparencies to lecture, which are a little hard to see & a little unorganized at times. The first midterm is SO easy, just understanding definitions. The 2nd midterm & final are more difficult but doing the optional homework helps. Midterms are MC & final is FR. Lab is drag

I struggled at first, but started going to office hours and it helped a lot. She's willing to help you. Go to all the lectures and pay attention because she really drops a lot of hints about the exams.

Little british lady who is funny. Go to class and do well. 3 midterms weeks 3, 5, and 7 and a final. Read the textbook and understand topics and you will do well.

Respectable professor but the way this class was handled by her is something that I would not agree with. Grades are based on exams only, and the tests themselves are not as clear in most cases. I would recommend taking this course with any other professor than professor Holmes

It could be a very easy class, if you pay attention and stay on top of things. You have to go to lecture and pay attention if you want to do good on the two midterms and final. Easy to fall asleep in beware. Most boring class i've ever been in. Also to have taken stats before is highly recommended.

She reminds me of my grandmother if my grandmother was British and went on long tangents that somehow do with statistics. You have to go to class if you want to class. Section uses excel, which is useless for the actual class. All together cute women but I wouldn't take the class again. Homework is optional, so thats where she gets test questions.

GO TO LECTURE! She gives out tips and hints for for upcoming midterms and final. The lab section doesn't help because excel doesn't come up on any test or final. Her notes are easy to understand. Look at the textbook to understand what the terms means and extra help. DO THE HOMEOWORK, IT HELPS FOR TESTS! Tests are easy if you know what you're doing

Teaches clearly, though a little boring. Her tests reflect her lectures, though they can be a bit tough. She posts weekly homework sets, but she doesn't always post practice tests.

Holmes is a great teacher and is super nice. She teaches according to the textbook which I found very helpful bc the book has great practice problems, some of which are on her exams. Do all the practice problems in the book and you'll be well prepared for tests. I thought I would hate this class, but Professor Holmes made me enjoy statistics!

Cute British lady, very well respected in the Stats world. Attendance in lecture is optional. As long as you do the practice problems in the book as well as the practice tests, you'll be fine. She mixes up things sometimes and goes very fast in lectures, so go to CLAS if you feel like you need it. Definitely buy the book, it was very helpful.

she's adorable. her powerpoint lectures were a little boring, but she taught clearly. she also basically says she wont fail anyone so she sets the curve REALLY LOW on tests and stuff. she's just such a sweet lady. definitely take her classes

Cute British lady. I wouldn't say that lecture attendance is crucial, but she explains things pretty well, so I attended almost always. The book has excellent examples, and section is easy and helpful. Put a little time in and it should be an easy A or at worst B.

Very clear, organized, to the point lectures. Cute lady made whole class laugh, loved British accent. TEXTBOOK written just FOR PSTAT5A helpful/short w/great examples! *DO THE CHAPTER REVIEW PROBLEMS in texbook!* For section, couple easy problems as classwork. Whole grade is 5 tests + section classwork. *PRACTICE TESTS ARE IDENTICAL TO TESTS!* :)

this class is fairly easy. you don't have to attend lecture to get a good grade, just the sections for better understanding of the current problems and if you need any more help, CLAS is an excellent way to get that A. it can basically replace lecture and section.
