Dr. Louis goes really fast in lecture, so make sure to assiduously review the lecture slides, go to office hours, and try to tackle the test exercises. Also, the coding assignments are the bulk of the grade. Overall, this class was challenging, and if anyone wants to get a head start, he or she can learn either Matlab or R on his or her own.
He is an okay professor, but I think the material is just a bit difficult to follow along with especially if you have not taken math or probability in a while. The coding assignments were too easy while the midterm was hard, mostly due to time constraint. Final was very fair. Read lecture slides and focus on exclamation marks. 88% A-
Hard class but generous curve. 87% was an A-. Midterm was 7 pages and wayyy too long.
Hard to understand what he is saying because of his accent.
500 points in all. 150 -> weekly MATLAB assignments. 25 -> GS quizzes. 30 -> group presentation. 225 -> midterm and final paper exam. 100 -> midterm and final coding assignment (take home). Midterm was long and hard while final was long but doable (both have cheat sheet). lots of stats, along with some derivatives & integrals. go to OH for help!
