you gotta go to lecture, do the textbook problems, and all the practice exams she posts online in order to do well on her tests! she has a quirky sense of humor and you can tell she tries to keep the class entertained!

Thanks Kunkel for including a whole unit we never learned in the 1B final. Don't take her class unless you want to pretty much learn the whole thing on your own if you want to do well on her tests. Her lectures cover bare minimum of this class and the test questions are hard and unexpected. No need to screw your students so much, but she does.

Kunkel is a good professor in general chem. Ber lecture is clear and pretty easy to follow. Besides, her exams are not hard. As long as you go through the lecture notes and do enough past exams, you don't even need to do the book problems and ALEKS, you will do well in her class. A Good choice for general chem.

She don't seem to understand class material very well. she would just list equations on blackboard by copying from the notes she is holding with little explanation of the background of the equation. then she would give a super simple example question which can be directly solved by plug in, however don't expect these type of questions on test.

I know what you're thinking, "this professor's reviews are all over the place" and the only reason for that is that is that she has wildly different reputations depending upon the level of gen chem you're taking. She's a real standout for Chem 1A and definitely more than a solid choice. She's really passionate and teaches very well. Worth your time

Kunkel is lighthearted and funny in class. She makes you feel as if you are really understanding the material... until you get to her tests. They are nothing like the examples she gives in class. Make sure to take practice exams and do book problems early on in the chapter and go to office hours for the things you don't understand

Kunkel's lectures are to the point and her tests aren't bad if you do her old exams and book problems.

Kunkel is funny and quirky but her lectures can be difficult to follow and her exams are consistently so much harder than the practice tests. Overall, you just have to work harder to teach yourself.

Prof Kunkel is literally the toughest of all the professors of the general chem series. There is a pretty significant difficulty gap between her lectures and the midterms and finals. You would think that since the average for her midterms and final is so low, the curve would make up for it but honestly don't rely on it, it's around 3-5%.

She seems like a nice person, but her lectures are too fast. She makes the tests so hard and it contains many chapters. The other Chem classes do not even have it this difficult. The professors are better and the tests only covers about two chapters. Prepare for the test because the chapter learned in the same week of exam is on the test.

Prof Kunkel is a wonderful, old-school chalkboard lecturer. Best qualities: 1.) She has surgical precision with scientific language; 2.) She is clear, organized, and concise with no filler words (umm); 3.) She has an energetic, engaging tone; 4.) She is hilarious... I will definitely try to take her again. Powerpoint is overrated!

Kunkel is a quirky professor and her class is reasonable up to the final. However, her final is ridiculously hard and she provides no practice problems that compare to what is on the final, but the class is curved so she isn't a bad choice. I would highly recommend taking Price if possible even if it doesn't fit your schedule perfectly.

I think Kunkel is a great teacher. I had her for 1A and 1B and am taking her for 1C. If you do all the book problems and practice quizzes, you'll do fine on the tests. I did all the recommended book problems and practice exams and got an A in 1B. The difficulty of 1B is not kunkel's fault and a lot of people are blaming her for their bad grade...

This is a weed out class. Imma tell you straight up, she doesn't care if you pass or not. Get out and get Price or Joseph if possible. Her tests are insanely harder than the other CHEM 1A professors. I wish I knew what i'm writing down when I started.

Had Price for 1A and had a great experiences with him. Kunkel is less organized which took me a minute to get used to. Lectures are a lot less structured than Price's so you have to pay attention. I suggest finding and doing the most difficult questions you possibly can in preparation for finals and midterms.

-Took her for chem 1a and was significantly harder for chem 1b -Go to CLAS, do textbook problems, do CLAS practice problems, do her practice exams -Do graded ALEKS for extra grade boost -Class is curved, but don't depend on it

She is a decent lecturer and prepares you pretty well. Her tests and quizzes are pretty tough, although the final is harder than them. To get an A do book problems and review Iclicker questions.

I heard many good things about Kunkel in Chem 1A, so I decided to take her chem 1B course. It was terrible. Lectures were heavy and fast, and the practice tests did not look like the actual tests. The actual tests were also too long, so most people did not even finish. Don't take her for chem 1B. Seriously.

Kunkel is a quirky, fun professor that makes going to lecture enjoyable. I found her 1A class to be easy, but when it comes to 1B, she does not teach that particular course very well at all. Lecture examples and practice midterms are not reflective of the tests. Book problems are your best bet but still will not do enough to prepare you.

Kunkel has enthusiasm for the material though fails to clearly explain the concepts in depth. Her exams are significantly harder than anything that she explains in class, on top of that she does all of her notes on the board without posting any of the examples on her slides. Likely one of the least clear professors that I have ever had.

The lectures don't help, she goes over everything super fast and doesn't really explain what she's doing. The tests aren't really that hard just do book problems and midterms and you should be fine.

She is a good professor, although be prepared to write fast because she does not put up powerpoints of lecture and writes fast and sometimes messily on the chalk board.

Tests are extremely tricky (e.g. lots of unit changes, tricky wording) compared to her lecture questions. Practice exams are almost useless and book problems are slightly useful. Some questions in her tests can be found in CLAS resources, but other than that you really have to know the concepts.
