CHEM1A . Sylvester B M 9 Years Ago

She was a very helpful professor especially during office hours. She took the time out to help students, and she was very passionate about the subject at hand. She also made jokes to sorta help you remember certain concepts. In addition, she tells you exactly what kind of problems you need to pay close attention as they'll be on upcoming exams

Very enthusiastic chem professor. Her exams are fairly difficult but definitely manageable as long as you do her old practice exams. She recycles some questions so that's a bonus. Do the recommended book problems because they definitely help! She doesn't curve each examquiz but there is one huge curve at the end of the quarter.

Love her because she is very upbeat and excited about chem. The class overall is very tough no matter what professor you have. Be prepared for late night studying and preparing for examsquizzes at least a week in advance. Definitely have to work hard for a good grade!

Kunkel is an entertaining lecturer, and explains materials well. I took AP chem, so this class was very easy for me. Did not go to a lot of class and got a high A in the class. I was interested because I'm a bio major, but not enough to ever use the textbook.

Kunkel is the best Chem 1A professor! Her tests were definitely tough, I compared exams to other professors and it was a joke how easy the others were. But, she definitely prepares you for the Chem series and is great at making concepts stick with you!

A very sarcastic person, but explains concepts very clear. She goes quickly in the beginning of the quarter and slows down during the harder concepts. Her tests are fair, but tough. Time is always an issue. So not only should you master the material but you have to do it quickly. She is however a teacher I would take again for sure.

She's very funny and enthusiastic about chemistry! If you go to her office hours she really tries to help you understand the material but you have to do your part and practice the problems yourself first. I took Chem 1a with her the first time and got a D+ but I retook it and got an A-. You just really need to dedicate time

Super enthusiastic, fun lectures, and has really great board writing skills. Tests and quizzes were a little tricky. Must do practice tests and I've heard book problems help (I didn't do them which probably explains my low grade).

I took AP chem in high school but had to take this class again for some reason. Although it wasn't bad for me, I can tell that it would be a difficult class for someone who hasn't taken ap chem. If you put in the work, it will be easy. If you don't it's gonna be really tough. Just do the work.

She cares. If the class doesn't do very well on iClickers in class, she'll go over the material again. She also does examples on the blackboard in class to clarify the course materials. My advice though is: ALEKS is your friend. ALEKS will teach you what she doesn't; don't hate ALEKS, and don't do it in one night. Also, do the practice finals.

Take her if you are willing to put a good amount of effort in chem instead of seeing it as just another obstacle class. From my experience, HARD WORK is extremely possibly you an A in this class. Put in the time for it! I didn't do well and study enough bc I only took this class bc I had, to with almost 0 interest in chem. Try to avoid being me.

Kunkel is amazing and my poor grade is a reflection of my lack of hard work. She's very clear and enthusiastic. Rumor has it she has the hardest exams, but then there's a pretty big curve at the end of the course. If you want an A, GO TO CLASS. PLEASE. As soon as you don't understand what she's doing, FIX IT. Take the practice exams.

She's kinda funny, and etc. But be real, if you want an A in Chem, you don't want her. You don't need textbook, her lectures are good, and she's funny. But her tests are way harder than anyone else, no powerpoints posted, and she gives adventure problems (problems you never seen before). If you want an A, don't take her. Otherwise, she's great.

GO to class her Iclicker replaces lowest quiz grade and the final replaces lowest test (all only if you did better on the iclicker or final) automatically so thats great! Funny if you get sarcasm.

I have a feeling shes going to be my favorite teacher here. I already know it.

I took for fall quarter. You don't need book, but 100% will have to go to lectures. She covers too much and goes too fast. Her tests and quizzes are extremely hard, and she doesn't curve. You have to study hardcore to get a B on a test tbh. She gives adventure problems, which are not fun. Great lectures, but if you want an easy A, not here.

Chem 1A sucks no matter what. There's quizzes and midterms every other week, and hours of ALEKS on end. But if you must, choose Kunkel. She's young, funny, fair, and extremely enthusiastic. She goes too fast to comprehend the material without outside help (CLAS, tutor) but she's always open for office hours and loves talking to students

Kunkel gets really excited about chemistry. She makes you want to pay attention and usually explains things pretty well. She's very sweet and helpful especially during office hours. The tests are a little difficult because of her adventure problems, but otherwise they cover everything you go over in class. You won't have to read the textbook.

Had 3 different professors for each quarter of the gen chem series- and Kunkel is by far the best chem professor there is. Great at explaining concepts and helping students out

Great prof now that I'm looking back. But I was a fool and never went to lecture and never studied (fall quarter freshman year). If you go the route I went you will at least get a C like I did. But HEED MY WORDS, get studying even like 20 minutes a day and you WILL get an A. Don't be a bad freshman like I was.

Dr. Kunkel writes all of her notes with chalk on the board so it's easy to keep up with her in lecture. She thoroughly explains all topics and types of questions. Her tests usually have a question that requires a little outside of the box thinking but no other surprises. Overall I thought she was a great professor!

Kunkel is very clear with her lectures. Explains concepts well and makes clear what will be on midterm and final. First midterm was very difficult but second one is much more doable. Had her for Chem 1A and struggled tremendously. This class is easier and much more interesting.

Dr. Kunkel was a great professor! She does not use powerpoint slides during her lectures, but writes down her notes on the chalk board. Personally, I found this teaching style to be very useful in learning chemistry because she walks you through her notes at a good pace. Her tests are not that hard if you attend lecture and do book problems.

I took Kunkel for Chem1A and ES15. I love Kunkel- I love her dry humor. As clear as she presents the material, I'm an ES major and had a really hard time on her tests even though they were fair. I ended up with a C and am happy to have passed. Kunkel's tests are fair so is the curve, I just suck at chem. I'm glad I'm done w/ the chem requirement
