CHEM1A . Joseph C A 5 Years Ago

Joseph is funny and caring. If you haven't taken Chem before I suggest to not rely on lecture and join CLAS. His tests and exams are all based on book problems. Do your Aleks as soon as you can to get it out of the way and focus on book problems. Some of the quizzes were easy but his final was really tough.

Professor Joseph is amazing. He's a wonderful teacher, and tries to explain the info in easy ways. He's also funny, which makes the class a bit more enjoyable. The material, however, is tough. Make sure to get 100% on ALEKS, and attend all the lectures for credit. I got C's on every quiz/exam, but ended the class with a B after the curve.

Professor Joseph is super nice. He gives a cheat sheet with everything we need to know (solubility, equations, etc). He also drops your lowest quiz score and replaces it with iclicker (free 100% quiz). He also replaces your lowest mideterm with your final (if it helps your grade). AND HE CURVES! 10/10 professor.

I would put him on the same level with Price, above Kunkel for sure.

really accessible during office hours, helpful, makes it clear what his expectations are. but, this is a pretty difficult course. you really have to work your butt off to get a good grade. also he says there's a curve but if you want an A or A- the curve doesn't help at all it only helps kids w lower grades so don't rely on it (which sux lol).

Dr. Joseph was the only professor my 1st quarter here that I LOVED. He is so engaging which is my favorite quality of his. I found his lectures very clear and attending was always fun. His tests are fair, he provides plenty of practice and uses book problems for exams. CLAS is super useful as basically a section for this course. HE IS ON THE MONEY.

Joseph is the best chem 1a professor by far. He is so good at explaining the concepts and is just a great overall guy. He recommends doing the book problems and in order to get an A you should definitely do them. Definitely go to lectures and if you begin to struggle join CLAS (easiest way to get a good grade).

Chemistry is difficult subject for some people to learn at the college level, but this professor does a great job at teaching the material. Also hes a pretty funny guy. If you take Chem at UCSB, this professor is a great choice even though his lectures are in the afternoon.

I cannot express how good of a professor this man is! He makes chemistry easy to understand and thoroughly discusses the material in ways that make sense. Attending lecture is a MUST, and keeping up w/ aleks & book probs are critical as exams/quizzes are based on those and past/practice exams

Cool dude! Clear lecture that flew by. I aced the first quiz and then didn't study for the first midterm and failed it lmao. Then I cracked down and because of the final replacement I actually managed to get an A but I really thought I wasn't gonna pass for a minute there... don't do what I did. Try hard from the start!

Joseph's exams and quizzes are a lot like the practice ones, so if you study those, you'll be good to go. Go to lecture and he explains the material pretty well. Textbook isn't really needed, but you can read it for extra explanation.

Jospeh really understands the material and communicates what you need to know for the exams. The big struggle in this class is getting used to the workload expected for the series, but if you keep up with ALEKS and textbook problems you'll be fine. Make sure you do practice problems and really understand the concepts covered.

CHEM1A was the class I had to spend the most time working on this quarter. The exams are pretty rough, but if you do the practice exams online and the practice problems you should be fine. He definitely makes you work for your grades, but he does give plenty of resources to help you along the way. My TA was Miranda Sroda, would definitely recommend

Hands down the best gen chem teacher you will have. I don't care which major you come in as, bio, biopsych, chem, engineering, he is absolutely the best of all gen chem teachers. Extremely clear, concise, and didactic, if you pay attention in class, do ALEKS, and do homework, you WILL get an A.

If you pay attention in class, do aleks, and the book problems youll be very prepared for his tests as they are exactly like his practice ones. Good lectures that get the point across.

He was a great teacher, but his tests were sometimes not on the money. STUDY QUIZZES BC TEST QUESTIONS ARE TAKEN FROM THERE. Do the book problems (#1 regret was slacking on those). He kept lectures interesting and always prioritized everyone's learning over anything else. Very clear when explaining, but as with any professor, you need revisit notes.

I highly respect Dr. Joseph. He isn't the nurturing type, but he's not mean either. He's very clear and straightforward, and always open to questions. I struggled in the class, but that was based on curriculum, not his teaching. Definitely sign up for CLAS. His previous tests and quizzes ARE YOUR FRIENDS because he asks the same types of questions.

Lectures are very clear and information heavy. Skipping class will DEFINITELY set you back; with that being said, he is a very solid teacher! Lots of ways to redeem yourself if you didnt do so well the first half of the quarter! Tests are a bit tricky, but fair. You must have a deep understanding of chemistry to do well. DO PRACTICE EXAMS/QUIZZES!!

Joseph was an amazing professor for the first college-level stem course you'll likely take. Super nice guy, always on the money with lectures, and super approachable. Just don't talk during tests or you'll face the wrath hidden deep within him.
