Makes you write a small weekly essay in addition to MasteringPhysics homework. Goes off on long tangents during lectures and never shows example problems in class. Instead just verbally explains concepts. Powerpoints are vague. Exams are ok but it's a lot of self studying. I'm sure he's a great researcher though.

He goes off on random tangents during class. Doesnt teach most of what is on the homework.

Very nice guy, very good at lecturing. BUT never talked about material relevant to class, instead taught random other things. Would have loved him as a lecturer on material that he wanted to teach, but PHYS 3 material was sadly not what he wanted to teach. Very generous with curve on final, so despite being self-study not a difficult class.

Like a typical UCSB physics class, the professor doesn't really teach and you just have to read the book and do the problems on masteringphysics. He ends up picking on random people in class, so try not to draw attention to yourself if you don't want that. It gets extremely awkward at times. Was very generous on the final with extra credit problems

One of the worst "teachers" I've ever had. He spent ZERO lecture time on relevant concepts. He's a nice guy who only teaches because the university forces him, but he seems to understand that and so he grades pretty generously. It's very doable to pass if you read the text and do HW problems. His tests are a terribly written, but curved generously.

I took Lubin for PHYS 6B, and received a high A by reading the book thoroughly, going over his slides multiple times, and mastering the sapling. His lectures are not that informative, he spends too much time talking about the math behind the concepts. KNOW THE CONCEPTUAL ASPECTS OF A TOPIC. MTs/Final were very tough, but huge curve.

Not only did he show up to class about 10 minutes late every day, he would spend the remainder of the lecture picking on students to do conversions in their head and barely taught us any physics. GO TO CLAS! it will save your life.

Good old, lube. Philip should not teach, but if you must take him don't worry too much. He lets you have a note sheet on the tests that you can basically write anything on. He talks about calc in an algebra class and goes off on tangents. He is literally the exact opposite of Bibilashvili, but at least his test are fairly easy. You won't learn.

This professor is the most amazing person I have ever met. He has a refreshing sense of humor and actually teaches how to apply physics to the real world. If you want to learn all the boring equation manipulations, just use Sapling! The professor is there to help clarify the subject matter, not waste their time working through lame problem sets.

Terrible lecturer, the worst explainer I have ever encountered, and just all around very lazy. How do you get around all that? Redo all Sapling problems, utilize CLAS, and redo all his iClicker questions. Use the textbook if it helps you too. You'll get above the average on the tests if you do all this, but it's highly recommended you avoid him.

Professor Lubin is the worst professor I have ever had. He's rude, especially in office hours, and clearly does not care about his students. He does NOT teach! He just goes through useless slides about trivial and unimportant facts the entire class period. I had to teach myself everything from the textbook. NEVER take a class he teaches!

Lubin is the worst professor I have ever had. Not only can he be really rude and disrespectful (i.e. calling people out in class and being at least 5-10 min late on a very regular basis), his lectures don't really apply to what the class should be. He teaches more calculus based physics when 6B is an algebraic physics class for biology majors.

I really did not enjoy Lubin as a professor. He's not terrible, he's engaging and speaks clearly but lectures are confusing and unrelated accompanied with really poor humor. Not the best teaching style imo for physics. Lectures are composed of deriving equations and calculus. Tests are MC and ok if you can learn from textbook

Worst professor I have ever had. His lectures have no organization, he always starts lecture ten minutes late, and his tests hardly cover any important physics topics. We learned the all-important right hand rule and weren't tested on it. I've only learned anything from the online homework system because it is impossible to learn from his lectures.

Requires i-clicker for attendance but uses them very randomly. Lectures are unorganized and useless - and he's often late. Homework is often due before he goes over that material in class. He does the minimal amount of work possible - does not provide study guides or practice tests, or recommend book problems. Don't take him if you can avoid it.

Spends whole lectures talking about stuff we will never be tested on, while completely skipping over important information that we actually need, like equations and how to use them. CLAS tutors are way more helpful. Lubin simply doesn't care. Don't take Lubin if you can help it, but he's not the worst. He's a bad teacher, but not a bad guy.

Lubin in an awesome guy. Although his lectures stray far from textbook material, they are still interesting, though not useful. It is easy to do well in the class as long as you attend the lectures and bring your iClicker. If you want to learn about physics Lubin is not for you, but if you want to get a good grade and the credits, take it with him.

Lubin is a chill guy. Does not lecture with a format or derive formulas in lecture. Keeps the atmosphere easy going and casual. Loved that he taught RLC circuits the way us EE's learn it. Got a B+ with relatively little effort. Take him if you want an alternative to your large lecture setting Roger Freedman kind of physics classes.

Lubin is the best! He seems to be the only teacher in the 1-4 series that understands that Phys 1-4 is NOT for physics majors. He is fair and and good teacher as well.

BEST PHYSICS TEACHER EVER!!! Keeps the mood light in lecture, i am glad to have him again for physics 4!

To get a great grade and move on, read the book. If you want to conceptually understand what's going on, pay attention in lecture. He's an easy grader and keeps the mood in lecture light and interesting. He knows what he's talking about and wants you to do well and understand. The tests seem insane but are graded generously.

A very good physics teacher for engineers. He lectures conceptually which was much more useful to me than a physics teacher trying to derive every equation and treating us like we're physics majors. He teaches what you need to know, and he truly tries to apply the subject to the real world. You'll never have another teacher like him!
