Professor Shewry was really cool. Overall I found the readings more interesting than the three books, but in general the material was easy to follow. Put in the work and you will do well.

Professor Shewry is a wonderful teacher. She has not midterm or final but grades on participation (like raise your hand cuz she writes down who participates) She has quizzes and two papers. Do well on papers and you will do well in class. She has a soft voice so sit up front. She has a great selection of material to read, great lectures too.

Best professor at UCSB! She really takes the time to give thoughtful feedback on your work. There are weekly reading quizzes but they are so easy if you did the reading. The rest of your grade is participation, a midterm paper (4 pages) and a final paper (7 pages). The readings and films in this class were very interesting as was class discussion.

Awesome professor. Sweet, straight forward, very helpful. Genuinely cares about the students, grades fairly and all around awesome class with a great selection of reading. Recommend 100% even for non-English majors, no midterm or final, just short/easy weekly reading quizzes, and a paper for midterm and final that were about 4-5 pages each I think.

She is so friendly and always willing to help students. No midterm, no final. Just a final research paper and small writing assignments. Actually cares about students as she reads your paper and writes commentary back. Definitely the best English professor!
