Hanson is great! 1 of the best classes I've taken. Really makes you work for the grade (insane group project) but so rewarding! What he teaches is actually applicable to the real world; he definitely gets out of that academic bubble. A reasonable grader, offers opportunities for extra credit. Attendance not technically mandatory but definitely go.
Jeff is easily one of the most friendly and easygoing people you will ever meet. The classes are small - about 25 people - and he takes the time to get to everyone well. He's so into what he's teaching that you will probably enjoy every lecture. He's known for landing people Venture Capital funding and internships upon graduation.
Hanson truly cares about the success of his students and is one of the most honest and caring professors at UCSB. Pay attention to the particular guidelines he mentions in class as grade is all based on effort. Hanson and this class had a profound effect on me.
The group project in this class was the hardest thing I have done in my college career. I ended up doing the majority of the work (typical in group projects) and was incredibly stressed. This is not an easy A, I definetly put a lot of work into the class in order to earn my grade. He's very repetitive and particular about certain things.
Mr. Cotich is awesome. Still my favorite teacher to this day at UCSB. I even took him two quarters in a row. He was very good with helping students improve their own techniques instead of trying to make everyone's writing look the same. Go to class. Participate. Ask for help. You'll do just fine.
Jeff is great- he has knowledge and experience in prof comm and shares with his students the most important and useful aspects of it. He takes the time to really read assignments and give good feedback because he cares about his students. Stay on top of the group project and make sure it is visually appealing and consistent! Dont lag on it.
He grades essays really hard. Ask for his feedback on everything; if it isn't the way he wants it then it basically is not right. Go to class on time because he will knock off points.
He is a great professor! He helps you a lot. You definitely improve after taking his class. BUT He is a really hard grader. He expects your essays to be really well done. Take him if you really want to improve your writing.
Go to his office hours. I learned A LOT. He's very experienced ;)
There truly aren't words that accurately describe the profound impact Jeff has had on me. I took both Writing 107B and Writing 105PS with him and these have been THE most practical classes I have ever taken. Jeff motivates you to do well not only in his class, but in all areas of your life. He is, without a doubt, the best professor I've ever had.
The best teacher for the best class that I have ever taken. His reader is a reference whenever I am writing some sort of professional document. His comments are invaluable and his enthusiasm for his students is wonderful; it makes the students want to do well as to not disappoint him! He believes in them.
Prof Hanson is one of the best profs Ive had at UCSB. This is a great course. He is really helpful and really cares about his students. TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM
funny in a nerdy way. really passionate about grammar (didn't know that was possible, but somehow it is) and makes you want to learn. makes dry material interesting. he is happy to help you understand something if confusion arises. super easy if you pay attention
The best professor I've had at UCSB! I 100% recommend taking one of his classes. In 107G you are required to turn in a resume. Yesterday I applied for 2 internships using tweaked versions of that same resume and received emails back today ! Take his class !!!
the best professor in UCSB! very helpful and responsible. He's not only passionate in teaching class, but also in helping his students for their career concern. Not hard, and not many work. Grading is pretty much based on efforts.(it's not hard to get an A) must take his class if you're looking for easy-going and helpful professor.
Hands down the best professor and the best class I've ever had at UCSB. Content was relevant, interesting, and applicable to real life. Jeff is incredibly friendly and engaging with students, and truly cares about their success. Don't graduate without taking one of his courses!
THE BEST TEACHER I HAVE EVER HAD AT UCSB. He is so passionate about writing and helping his students succeed. Not only is this class very helpful but Jeff is always available to help his students. This class does require some work but most of the assignments are very helpful in the long run (resumes, cover letters, etc.) Take this class!
He is an amazing professor. He is so helpful, it's ridiculous. He is always available outside of class and answers all your questions not just about his class but about his life, his work, majors, careers, and much more. He does not take attendance in class but I didn't miss a single one. By far, one of the best professors of my college career.
THE ABSOLUTE BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD. YOU MUST TAKE HIM. he teaches you so much and hes funny and so helpful. beyond an academic experience, i learned about the real world. not super easy but you want to do his projects because they are applicable
Loved this class with Hanson. He's a great professor. He loves his job and really cares about his students. I would not say this class is the hardest; however, it is very time consuming. Instead of a bus plan, we did a manual about bus communication in diff countries. 35% of grade is with a team. Prepare to spend a lot of time meeting outside class
Professor Hanson was such a valuable asset to my experience at UCSB. I have told many of my friends to take 109EC from him. I have improved my grammar, writing style, public speaking and team leadership skills exponentially, all thanks to Jeff. If you have the opportunity to take one of his courses, you will not regret it!
Great Professor. He really cares about his students and has a great personality. He definitely challenges you, but his knowledge and experience makes the class worth it. His stories about his career experience make you remember why you want to major in Business. He seems to be a genuinely nice person.
I'm still trying to figure out how I can describe him in less than 350 words to make you understand how impactful this professor is. He became a friend to me. I'm a psych major, and I loved this class. He made it what it is. DO NOT LEAVE UCSB WITHOUT TAKING ONE OF HIS COURSES. It doesnt matter which one. Meet him, you wont regret it.
grades hard and expects a lot from you, but he is willing to help you. good professor over all. btw, watch your grammar when writing papers. marks everything you do wrong.
