Final harder than the midterm. Lectures are mostly applications, but the few problems he does are helpful for the exams. CLAS is useful. Practice doing hard problems to be ready.
Geller is good lecturer. I respect the way he lectures. He knows what he's talking about and tries to elaborate as much as possible. However, he can get off track sometimes. He lectures, but he gives the vibe that he doesn't care about the the students which makes him lecture differently.
Freund is AMAZING!! Best out of all the physics 6 series professors. Make sure to understand the practice test and finals and you will do well!
He goes over more conceptual and application stuff in class, so some people didn't like that he doesn't really go over solving equations in class. The midterms and finals are based on the homework, so definitely study homework problem and you'll be fine. Also recommend going to CLAS.
Unless you are naturally phenomenal at math and physics, avoid taking a class with Geller at all costs. Took 6A with him and got a C. Then took 6B with him and got a C-, which meant needing to go back and repeat it. Went to his office hours and was told that I'm "just not that good at physics, huh?" when I asked him a question. Rude+ condescending.
I really cant say enough good things about Freud. He is the most caring professor Ive ever had at UCSB, I hope he teaches here for many more years. I have koutralakis for 6c & he really is not as caring or as good of a lecturer as Freund. His tests are SO fair and he gives a great curve. He is so dedicated that he had a concussion & still had OH
Freund is amazing. That is all.
If you want to do really well in this class make sure you download his practice tests and do the problems as you go along. Keep reprinting them out and go to CLAS when you need help. Tests are fair and averages are pretty low (50 for midterm and 60 for final). He's a really cool/funny professor and does clicker (3% of grade).
BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD. HE KNOWS HOW TO TEACH, HILARIOUS, AND EASY TO TALK TO. SERIOUSLY, TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN!! WE LOVE DADDY FREUND!!!!!!!
Professor Gellers lectures are pretty interesting and is pretty funny every once in awhile. The homework is worth a lot sake sure you do it and do it right. The midterms can be tough but as long as you practice problems you should be fine. Same goes for the final.
You will have to do a lot of studying on your own just to pass the class. I Recommend taking any other professor. Never once did a practice problem in class with number figures(like they are on the tests).
Amazing professor! He not only keep the subject interesting but he cares about his students, which is VERY hard to find at UCSB. Tests are difficult but do-able if you go to office hours. I LOVE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Honestly he is not that good a professor. Does not teach much/ that well in lecture. You have to do most of the studying on your own, but if you know your stuff the tests are easy
Honestly, Freund is amazing. He cares so much about his students. He's the only professor I've ever encountered who is concerned about his low test averages and takes responsibility in that. I think he's a great physics professor and his tests are hard but FAIR. GO TO OFFICE HOURS! He is literally so willing to help. His demos in class are amazing
Hes a very scattered teacher, definitely needs to condense and organize his lectures better. You dont need to go to class to pass as long as you review and understand the homework and practice tests. He also uses unusual variables in comparison to standard physics. Wouldnt take again.... however best out of the 6 series teachers.
He's a great LD professor that can teach the basics of physics and allow all students to understand clearly. Homework due every week or twice a week but doable with CLAS and teamwork. His exams are hard (16 questions worth 100pts) but many did get As. Harder time if you never took a Physics class before but otherwise he tells you what's on the exam
Tries pretty hard to appeal to his "younger" audience, so get ready for his totally relatable jokes. Fair grader, multiple choice exams that are straightforward. Pushed HW deadlines back consistently throughout the quarter (don't know if he planned to do this but it was nice). Cool demos, good prof to ease you into the Physics series.
"If you don't get it, you better figure it out before the test." That quote by him sums up his teaching pretty well. Occasional marginally funny jokes makes lecture a bit more bearable. Seems like a nice dude 1-on-1
I wanna attend any of his classes again. Each lecture he introduced only include a small part of chapter in the book. Sometimes when he had a cold he just skip the lecture and leave us to learn by ourselves. He always assign a lot of homework with tough and strange requirements. And what his lecture did little contribution and help for homework.
Hilarious, e(a)rnest, and caring professor. Pay close attention to his lectures and really understand the practice midterms to do well on his tough exams. I found his lectures to be a bit confusing and boring at times, but he shares interesting and entertaining stories. He's very approachable!
A passionate teacher with interesting lectures, but you should probably read the book bc his lectures aren't test material. Already mentioned, but no curve, and the grading scheme makes it easy to get a B but hard to get an A. Do practice problems and understand sapling to do well on the tests! Use CLAS resources to your advantage as well.
- Great professor to listen to, can jump around on concepts though - I find it helpful to read thru the textbook, most people don't - Tough exams - Highly recommend taking him for 6c during the summer
Geller is a great lecturer and person, but he also doesn't cover everything that you need to know in lecture. Reading the book, doing the homework, and going to CLAS will supplement his lectures in order to be prepared for tests. He only has two homework assignments a week. I really liked his class, but the set curve makes it difficult to get an A.
Geller was super understanding and compassionate. When I went into his office hours he always took the time to really answer my questions and make sure I understood the subject.
