Really good lecturer and made class interesting. His section of class (biochem) was by far the easiest and he explains all the concepts really well. The midterm was straightforward and super similar to the practice tests. Watching the CLAS videos really helps! Textbook isn't necessary but can help if you want an additional resource.
Feinstein taught this class great, he clearly has passion and an incredible understanding of the material. The TAs werent the most helpful and couldn't answer questions clearly. Exams are 80% of the grade, quizzes are 20%. Exams are graded strictly but lowest gets dropped, understand the experiments inside and out. Curve was steep, OH is helpful.
Test/quizzes were very fair. Super knowledgeable and approachable after class. All in all, just a really nice guy.
This course was taught much better than his part of intro bio. Midterm was a 5 minute presentation in section wort 30%, participation in section 20%, final exam 50%. The final was very stressful since there are no assignments throughout the quarter so it can be hard to know what to study but he posts a previous final to help. Overall ok MCDB class
He's a very accommodating professor. Super easy class, and the material is interesting because he mentions current events. You have to do a presentation for a midterm and the final is open notes for a few days.
This class is super interesting and he was SUPER accommodating during rona time. Study the experiments and think of other ways the study could have been done to do well on the tests. Easily the best prof I had during rona. Gave 24 to take tests and quizzes. Could be done with the class after the midterm if you were happy with your grade.
He is a great teacher, and will test off of the lecture material. If you take the time to meet with him, he will help you and can give helpful insights for grading, what to expect for his tests, and ensure you understand the concepts. He is patient and will explain things ad nauseum if you truly do not understand.
take detailed notes, rewatch the lectures, and create study guides outlining the approaches to every experimental question and you'll do well.
didn't even get to know our final exam scores, unresponsive to any emails.
He is one of the best professors I have taken and you can tell he is enthusiastic about the material he is presenting. Take his honors seminar if you can too. His tests are super straightforward just know all the experiments inside and out and how it relates to the question being studied. Only reading is a few articles rest of material is on slides
Amazing class and very interesting. He grades tough, but fair and the test are very concept based. If you try to simply memorize everything without understanding it you wont pass. Really interesting class and he wants you to learn.
Great teacher, funny and easy to understand!
Really good professor and makes it easy to listen and pay attention in class. Tests are pretty hard, you definitely have to know your stuff and be concise in your answers. He tells you the book is optional which is really nice because you don't need to worry about doing the reading on top of studying lecture slides.
Stu is one of the best professors here. He cares about the material and his students, and gets really into lecture. Grading on tests can be tough, and they're all short answer so be specific and get to the point. 2 midterms + final, no papers.
Dr. Clegg conveys the fascinating information presented in this course clearly. He is very involved in research but is also a great teacher. He is helpful and speaks to students with respect. He has high expectations from his students and the exams are difficult but fair. Also, take his stem cells course.
Dr. Clegg, or Doc as you will get to know him by, is the best professor I have had at this school. This course is also the best I have ever taken; taught like a grad seminar, attendance is mandatory (and encouraged) but there is no final and the lectures (guests almost every class) are extremely interesting. Take this! And also MCDB 152 with him!
Feinstein is a great professor. You can really tell he is passionate about teaching this class. He makes everything interesting and clear. I actually found myself looking forward to this class and was sad it had to end. My favorite MCDB class by far.
Dr. Feinstien is a great professor. His class follows a chronological story of evolution of the nervous system. His slides are good at leading students toward the correct way of thinking, and his explanations are often very intuitive, yet straightforward. Take the honors section.
This class is his passion, and his enthusiasm is pretty infectious. You will have to go to class- posted slides online don't have everything he goes over
He is awesome. This class was so interesting and I'm pretty sure I'm changing to Cell Dev. partially due to this class. I really recommend this class. The exam don't seem too difficult until you get the test back and see your grade. Grading is HARSH but this class is so worth it and there's a curve.
Very good teacher- I really enjoyed his class. I didn't do any of the reading, just studied lecture notes, and ended up doing really well. Definitely a lot of work, mostly memorization. He's interesting and I would recommend this class.
