Ted was useless honestly. You have to read a full chapter and teach yourself all the material and then after the homework is due he kind of goes over it in lecture. So basically you teach yourself the class, and then he reviews what you had to teach yourself. Homework graded harshly.
He's a solid teacher who is very knowledgeable about the material. His class isn't to difficult and you know what you are getting when you take the quizes
You can't find anyone better than him in the Economics department. When you take classes with him, you are home.
econ 171 was terrible in an online environment, the professor doesn't communicate with students.... The econ dept needs to get rid of this dude.
Professor Bergstrom wins the title of worst Econ instructor at UCSB by a landslide. In an online environment, little to no accommodations were made and response time via email would take up to a week. The material is not too complicated but get ready to read textbook extensively to understand it since his explanation would send you in circles.
Professor Bergstrom seems like a professor that cares less about his students and more about his research. If you are someone who needs support with difficult material, don't expect support from TA or teacher. Forum discussions are created for students to talk through issues togethor, but teacher doesn't chime in when everyone is stuck.
Honestly, the worst professor I have had in my academic career. So much so, that i felt I needed to write a review for the first time. Ignores students emails, grades harshly, and dismisses students rudely. The very LAST person you want to be teaching a class about Game Theory
funny guy, one of the best econ profs in ucsb. got to clas, do hw, practice (I mean really practice) practice exams and you will be okay. willpower is key. only complaint is the curve, but what can you do? this might sound hard but do ur absolute best in econ 1, cause u might have to take rupert econ 2 and he is a grade tanker. I was a chem major.
Professor Ignacio Esponda is the best teacher I have ever had. He is an amazing lecturer and the content in this class is so interesting. This class really changed my career and academic trajectory. Esponda is such a caring person and understands that this class can be difficult; he is very accessible and helpful. If you can take this class, DO IT!
Oprea is a god, literally best professor i've ever had. I would do anything to hear one of his beautifully awful jokes again. Literally like him more than i like my dad
His lectures were really HARD to follow since he went through all the materials so quickly in class. Quiz is totally off script and super hard. Not recommended as a GE.
My favorite econ professor!!! Super fair and seems to really care about his students. Class is very interactive (you literally play games) so its not boring. No midterms, 4 problem sets, and a final. Final is completely open notes because the problems require applying logic not an exact formula. A pretty easy class if you put in some effort.
Prof. Esponda's Game Theory class is the best Econ class I have ever taken. If you like logic problems, you will love this class. Grading policy is very friendly and clear. His lectures are a ton of fun and you will not have to pick up a textbook once - just go to lecture, play the games and understand the concepts and logic. Highly recommend!
Amazing and funny guy, but lectures aren't all that though. Seems like he's reading off the slideshows. Honestly, didn't buy a reader, showed up to lectures only for iclicker, played games or watched movies while listening for jokes. The thing I did and would highly recommend to pass this class: DO QUIZ AND FINAL PRACTICE. Everything's on there
Ryan is a funny guy, too bad his lectures really suck. I am not an Econ major and the class is designed to be really hard in order to weed people out of the major. You're expected to already know all the math involved, and Ryan ends lectures early a lot instead of taking the time to slow down and explain things further. Don't take as a GE.
so hard grading policy. so hard quiz
Lectures are always fun with him. He's a really funny professor and you can tell he's passionate about economics. Make sure you read the book and go to lectures, they cover slightly different things. The curve is hard but the content is easy.
Ryan is really awesome as a lecturer teaching Econ stuffs so take his class if ur interested in econ. The class grade is based on your rank in class (top 9% in ranking/87.5% in raw scoreA). I'm in math major and took AP Micro class in the past so I found the class easy A. If not do the reading and practice (with clear work-out) and u'll be good!
Class is hard because of the curve, not the professor. He does a really good job at actually explaining and making materials available.
THIS IS A WEED-OUT CLASS! Do not take this unless you want to be an Economics major. Your high-school economics class knowledge has no use here. Workload is light, but you REALLY have to pay attention and study if you want to get a B or C (A's are very rare). The professor is pretentious and doesn't explain well. Tests are almost all trick Q's.
Great professor but not a easy class. Reading helps a lot. Be ready to work hard to get a good grade. Has a quite strong curve.
Ryan is trying hard to make his class interesting. Definitely would take his class again. It's an easy A if you get every quiz and homework right. CLAS helps a lot.
one of the best profs i had so far, makes you work for ur grade so get ready to study, lectures are fun and interesting, he makes it really easy to pass to the point where you have to actually try to fail. only take if your interested in econ and in the major. dope professor overall,
Hes a great professor. Econ1 is not an easy class so get ready to study. I would be willing to take any class taught by Oprea. Theres a grading policy. I would not recommend this class to anyone who is taking as a GE requirement.
