He's a nice professor and the class isn't too difficult. I would go to class everyday or make friends with somebody who does because the slides themselves are just pictures. Definitely a note-taking requirement. The sections are mandatory and you take quizzes for a grade almost every section. 1 midterm and 1 final MCQ, and 1 group project.
Prof. is funny and enthusiastic but sometimes rambles. Lecture attendance is not required although you will be quizzed on the lecture material and participation in section. One essay and one group project. Final and midterm were not difficult but I would recommend paying at least some attention to the readings and lecture. Overall good class/GE.
Lectures are very interesting, but the professor does ramble at times. Midterm was difficult but had a generous curve. Final was free. The class is graded out of 105% and loaded with extra credit opportunities. The first five weeks are boring but the last five are genuinely great. Do the weekly readings and your A will be confirmed.
Make sure you do the readings. As someone who enjoys art history, this class was so boring and going to class was a struggle. It is also super dependent on your TA and they are kinda allowed to make different rubrics and do what they want. It is made up of a midterm, essay, group project, final, section questions and section attendance.
Before entering this class, remember it's an art history course! You will be asked to analyze art forms in an essay and lectures at the beginning could be boring before kicking off into the fun stuff after the midterm. White is a fun, sweet man, and I personally enjoyed him. Pay attention in lectures because you'll be quizzed in mandatory sections.
This class was not as fun as I'd hoped as it is a history class first and foremost. First half of the lectures very boring but as it got closer to present day it got better. 3 essays, 3 quizzes, and a final. All pretty easy and online. I would take as an easy GE, but it def isn't the most entertaining.
Content is based on lectures and readings, but not necessary to attend because he posts slides after each class (only pictures though). Short weekly quiz based on the lecture and readings. 3 essays (900-1200 words each), 3 online quizzes, and 1 online final exam.
Straightforward, boring lectures, but important to go and take notes to succeed in this class. Lenient grading on essays, easy quizzes. Section attendance mandatory, and beware of the lecture quiz questions in sections, they're sometimes tricky. White is an average lecturer but to his credit he's pretty chill and accessible outside of class.
lectures were boring, but i found it helpful to go especially for the papers that weren't graded easily. part of the final is a group project, it wasn't hard, just tedious work. most of the tests were multiple choice and take home, but the final had some short answer responses. section for this class was unbearable, but mandatory.
He gives dull lectures but will sometimes have fun interactive in class activities. The readings are interesting, quizzes will have the most random things in the readings and the lectures, but I would just skim through the reading to find the keywords. 2 papers with interesting prompts that allows for creativity. Fun final game design project.
This class is a great GE. The content is super interesting even though the prof is a little boring. I watched the lecture videos but never did the reading (only skimmed it for the weekly quizzes). Finished with an A+. One major essay and two projects. The TAs are pretty lenient on grading. Highly recommend!
Prof White was a boring lecturer. The concept of the class seems kind of interesting but I found that this professor made the content boring. There are weekly open note quizzes based on the reading, online lectures, and in class lectures. It just seems like too much work for a 4 unit class, imo. There's also a paper and a group project.
Took this in Spring 2021. This class is suitable for anyone. Concepts about games are very basic. Untimed weekly quizzes based on lectures. 2 papers in total. TAs are generous in grading. A final group project is to make a board game. They are simple. He also gives a 5% extra credit with a super easy matching quiz. Getting A in GE is easy and fun.
Took this over the summer. Lots of readings of lectures and such, weekly quizzes for 40% of your grade. I pass/no passed the class and we had a single paper. Interesting content. Not completely about video games, more board games/table top.
Good class, lecture presentations are way too long.
Good professor. Lecture slides were terrible, because we had to read it on our own. But the video with the professor lecturing was very engaging.
pretty easy! it is the second time for me to take his class, I really enjoy working with Jeremy.
For a class about games, it sure was a slog. Lectures were far too broad and unspecific. It seemed more like an archaeology class with a thin thread of games throughout. This was only his second time teaching it, so I'm optimistic the class will improve, particularly because he is very passionate about the subject, but maybe give it a few years.
-Interesting Professor, attend lecture and section. -I really appreciate that at the end he doesn't make it dramatically hard to get a reasonable grade, he wants to see students succeed, at-least thats how I felt. At the end you can see how much he helps grade wise.
Really nice guy overall, his lectures just got really boring but unfortunately you do have to pay good attention to them. Great TA, which I think made the course super engaging. Content is obscure, super easy GE, even easier for my major course.
If you are taking this class only for a GE, do not take it, the TA's are tough graders and stingy with their grading. The professor himself is amazing, he engages with the students and tries to entertain the crowd during lecture, but overall the ones grading your work is those TA's. There are lecture quizzes every Ta section, hurts my grade 3# down.
Hes an interesting lecturer and the tests are very fair. I would say its not the easiest GE but its very clear cut. Some of the TAs are pretty harsh graders though. Overall, hes a likeable guy. I got a 102% without too much work.
I LOVED PROFESSOR WHITE! He is an amazing lecturer and I really enjoyed his class. His class is very easy to pass. His quizzes can be a bit hard but honestly the way it was structured was fair. Show up to section and lecture because he basically gives free points if you pay attention which helps. Highly recommend for GE class
Quizzes were so annoyingly hard. The questions had super random takeaways from his lectures, or really specific info from the long convoluted readings. not even chatgpt knew the answers a lot of the time. i also didnt learn a flipping thing! What the duck is a decorated shed? What the flip is a duck? His slides were utterly useless too. (quack)
