I went into this course worried hed be a bad professor given the reviews he has, but then I took him & hes not even bad. Followed the textbook & exam questions were literally pulled out of problems from the book too. Final was just questions from the midterms. Could definitely teach better on some parts but overall great professor & REALLY funny.

Prof Bernt is always willing to answer any questions you have and puts in a lot of effort in his lectures. His test questions are tricky esp. if you didn't take ap chem but aleks is worth 20% and scores are replaced for tests so it isn't hard to get an A if you put in the effort to do book problems/practice tests. Definitely recommend for Chem 1A.

Very tough exams! Know how to do every type of problem frontwards and backwards! Other than that he is a really down to Earth professor and really has a passion for chemistry. Hes friendly and will answer any questions you may have

The material this course covers is easy but Nava doesn't do a good job teaching it. His lectures are confusing and he gave no practice problems or homework so the course had little structure. If you read the book and do some problems from each section you'll get an A since the tests weren't hard. Just annoying you have to teach yourself everything

Nava isn't a really good professor at all, but the class is so basic that if you have the textbook and do the problems of what he says will be on the test, you will be fine. I never went to class and had no problem doing well on the tests. He also has a good grading scale because an 88+ is an A.

Stats is love. Lectures are a little dry but he does his best to make them worth your time. I recommend getting the book and doing problems from the sections he's lecturing. It'll also help with quizzes in section. Grading is fair and he gives a whole packet of formulas for midterms and the final.

Nava doesn't give practice tests. He wont tell you the answers to the midterms when you get them back. The TA's are bad. Some don't speak English. I switched TA's 3 times. The formula sheet you get on tests has different formulas than those in the textbook and he goes too fast in lecture to take notes. Don't take Nava.

Nava is a really cool guy but his teaching style is sub-par. He goes over the same slides every class and posts lectures online so you can go back and watch them. Be ready to teach yourself though, I had no background in stats and if it weren't for my TA and online videos, I wouldn't know what was going on

honestly I would just go to lecture for the clicker points. his lectures are not clear at all as he goes through lectures really fast and assumes everyone knows what's going on. went to visit him during office hours and seemed disinterested and not willing to help much with my grade or any questions I had. good luck if you have him lol

Prof. Bernt's lectures are not very helpful, which was made even more clear to me after attending lectures of other professors. The tests are very very difficult; he writes the multiple choice answers to reflect small errors in computation. I tried to attend office hours and he seemed disinterested in helping me while surfing on his computer.

Dr. Nava is a friendly guy, but an OK lecturer. He knows his stuff, but could better convey the material to the students in a better way through less reliance on powerpoints and more use of the whiteboard. If you want to get an 'A' in the course, really master the problems he assigns before exams and enroll in CLAS with Binh.

If you ever get to take him for Chem 1A DO IT!! He makes Aleks 20% of your grade! This helps immensely in the overall end grade. Hes very responsive and helps out with as much as he can.

Nava is somewhat disorganized and hard to follow at times, but he's a funny guy and made lecture easy to attend. Attendance is mandatory and a part of the grade. You don't need the textbook - it was helpful for studying but problems were never assigned from it. Grading criteria was clear and tests were not overly difficult.

During a lecture, Nava bragged about how you can do anything you want as a professor. I think he chose to be very bad at teaching. He glosses over lecture materials and tells us that it is easy without explaining anything while spending time trying way too hard to be funny and relatable. Sign up for CLAS because it will save your life.

He's a real cool teacher, it was an 8 am class and he did good to make it easy to take in even at that time. He always played music before class and he uploads all of his lectures online, which is just too helpful, I seriously don't know what I'd do if he didn't do that.

Take 130 w/ Nava, show up to class pay attention and take the quizzes and you'll definitely get an A regardless of taking the certification exam. The SAS exam is a whole different beast however, if that's your route ditch class take practice exams for a week straight and go into the exam and you'll pass undoubtedly.

His lectures were the most unhelpful and he seemed as if his brain was scattered the entire time. Not a good professor.

second time taking this class with him and scared i wont pass. what he says is on tests is MAYBE that but always something else, he catches you blind sided. he doesnt teach you anything, learned all by myself. sign up for CLAS, i wish i could at this point. worst professor ever.

Took stats in high school and that was my only saving grace! Attendance is required but his lectures weren't that helpful, CLAS was a must and helped me get through most of the course. He seems like a nice guy and was pretty accomodating during the disastrous fall quarter of 2017 but him and his TA's didn't teach well, get ready to self teach

Nava is just an incompetent professor. He glosses over the material during lecture, and the book is garbage, riddled with errors and typos. You have to buy a Tophat subscription ($25) and enter the attendance code provided at the beginning of the lecture, but most people just text it to their friends then leave. TA wasn't helpful. Good luck.

Nava seems like an okay person, but he is the most disorganized instructor I have ever encountered. The textbook was not "required" but DO 100% GET THE TEXTBOOK! It makes so much more sense than he does. He manages to be both redundant and vague at the same time. Avoid him if you can, teach yourself with the textbook if you can't. GET THE TEXTBOOK!

On the first day he seemed like a chill guy but he is just incompetent. The textbook is not required for the class but GET IT. I honestly learned everything by myself using the textbook. His lectures are terrible and meaningless. If you learn everything yourself the tests will be easy. Just know he won't be teaching you anything useful.
