Nava's lectures are unclear but the material is relatively easy and can be self taught. I did textbook problems for each section and went to my TA's office hours for help. His tests are easy and straightforward. I definitely recommend him if you are willing to put in time and keep up with the material.
Gives bad lectures, only like 20 people attended out of hundreds enrolled. Skip lecture, no point going, he post on guachospace if you really want to waste 1 hour and have nothing better to do, But make sure to get a good TA and go to CLAS. they will be your main source of knowledge. Nava tries to teach but I just can't understand his lectures.
Although the course material is relatively easy and the textbook is easy to follow, Nava is not a great teacher. He can't answer student questions and spends a lot of time in class on tangents that have nothing to do with the material. Class is based off section twice a week, one midterm, and a final. Do practice problems from the book. It was eh.
This is THE WORST professor I have ever had. He really doesn't know how to teach, and talks during lecture instead of trying to explain the information. His slides are insanely disorganized and there is no point in going to lecture because you don't learn anything. I have had to read the entire textbook and teach myself the entire course.
If I could give Nava 10000 stars I would. Best prof I have ever meet. Very easy A
Easy grader, giving e formulas for midterm and final so actually, they r not that hard. U can skip lectures and learn it by the record that he posts online. No hard homework. Yayyy
Nava is one of the most annoying profs at ucsb. His lectures are completely useless. All he does is say the powerpoint to you and doesn't explain anything. If you haven't taken stats before he does not cover any basic topics at all. There is only one problem set with one word solutions to study from. Got a good grade because of CLAS. Hard af final.
Nava is an extremely friendly guy plays music before class starts, makes jokes to lighten the mood, and cares about students. His explanations could be a bit better but he does post every lecture so you can listen to it through the podcast. The class material itself is pretty straightforward.
I like statistics and I have never had an issue with it. However, I really struggled in Nava's class. The material wasn't hard, he was just a horrible teacher. He would go on and on about card games (roulette?). He was extremely confusing and I didn't know what was going on in the class most of the time.
I went into this course worried hed be a bad professor given the reviews he has, but then I took him & hes not even bad. Followed the textbook & exam questions were literally pulled out of problems from the book too. Final was just questions from the midterms. Could definitely teach better on some parts but overall great professor & REALLY funny.
The material this course covers is easy but Nava doesn't do a good job teaching it. His lectures are confusing and he gave no practice problems or homework so the course had little structure. If you read the book and do some problems from each section you'll get an A since the tests weren't hard. Just annoying you have to teach yourself everything
Nava isn't a really good professor at all, but the class is so basic that if you have the textbook and do the problems of what he says will be on the test, you will be fine. I never went to class and had no problem doing well on the tests. He also has a good grading scale because an 88+ is an A.
