I loved Professor Welter. He was very passionate about the class material. The course was well organized and expectations were clear. Weekly readings and quizzes that could be taken twice for full credit on Canvas.
Professor Welter is a great lecturer and makes the class really easy to understand. I am by no means an art history major, but I found the content interesting and was able to be relatively successful in this class. Professor Welter is very passionate about architecture, and it really shows in this class.
Professor Welter is very thoughtful and articulate in his lectures. Not hard to do well on weekly quizzes if you take notes on the readings and lectures are very clear and easy to follow.
One of my favorite professors on campus, I would take any class with him. Since its an ES/AH class, much less architecture demanding with things like memorizing names and locations, but rather that you understand the concept. Do the quizes and readings every week and you'll do fine. Go to office hours and its a guaranteed grade boost by a letter.
I took this class P/NP. I'm glad I did, because I got away with not putting much effort into it and passing. Prof Welter is really knowledgeable, so if you're actually interested in the subject, I suggest taking his class. He has weekly thinkpieces and takes attendance so you generally have to go to class
My favorite professor in the architecture department! Grading is fair. Topics can get a bit repetative, but at least you remember enough to get a good grade on the midterm/final without hours of studying. Definitely take a class with him!!
welter's hot.... in a pinstripe, pink shirt, nerdy smart, european kind of way. he's very helpful and very intelligent and his classes are all interesting.
Good class, at times a little boring but for the most part interesting. Welter seems to be a good/helpful/witty prof. Final was fairly easy and papers were graded, for the most part, fair.
No doubt Prof. W is a nice guy, and he put together a pretty coherent theory about sustainable architecture. However, once he layed out the theory in the second week, it was the same thing over and over. I don't even remember going to classes, though I know I did. Worth taking, but barely.
Only graded on weekly quizzes (get 2 attempts), midterm, and final - midterm and final questions pulled from quizzes. Everything is straight from the assigned weekly readings (which were pretty light) and lectures. Welter made a boring subject interesting and I would recommend taking this class with him if given the opportunity.
Very kind and passionate despite what people say, not conceited or pretentious at all! Very approachable as well. Quizzes were online and based on lecture slides/readings and final/midterm based on these quizzes. His lectures were interesting for a non major as well.
He is super passionate and engaging. Attendance was not mandatory, and his class is based on entirely just the quizzes. All the quiz questions you've seen before get reused for the midterm and final so study those. Couldn't recommend this class enough. Great prof & fascinating material.
The worst course I have ever taken.
Great professor. Pay attention to lectures and you'll get a good grade. Super interesting and you can tell he's passionate about the subject.
Professor Welter is a Professor I have extreme respect and admiration for. He is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about architecture, really tries to get students to engage with the subject in a critical/philosophical manner, and seems to really appreciate students ideas and work. Always a pleasure to take one of his classes!
I like this professor. I think hes pretty down to earth and understanding. We always had good discussions in his class.
I thoroughly enjoyed this class. He is a clear and knowledgeable lecturer. We had weekly writing assignments that were hard to get a feel of the first few weeks but got more clear as the quarter went on. He also gives good feedback to help you improve your writing.
Professor Welter is so great! Im shocked he doesnt have higher reviews. Ive had multiple classes with him and hes amazing. His lectures are very thoughtfully put together and I have learned a lot from him. The work load is really not that bad unless its for a GE.
Very tough grader that is overly fastidious, he will deduct your grade significantly for some details like minor grammatic errors. Will probably frustrate you if your first language is not English.
He does not make you forget that he's German, It may get annoying. Highly opinionated. For essays he's very much a harsh grader. Grammar must be perfect. Highly engaging lectures if you are into architecture. Funny sometimes.
Yes, there are weekly responses but you got pass grade once you have done this assignment. Clear lectures (with a German accent though ), great feedback, care for every student. Would take any class with him!
VW assigns a ton of work. Weekly quizzes, weekly drawing journals, 2 papers, and a final. He cares about what he teaches and is passionate, but his style of teaching was hard to follow and his lectures seemed unorganized. If you complete hw assignments and study basics, easy B. You'll definitely have to work for the A. Don't take as a GE.
I originally took this class just for a GE, but VW is the best!! He can be intimidating at first just because hes a very large German man, but he is so nice and approachable. Its nice to have a prof that tries to connect w students at least a little bit through out the quarter. Hes extremely knowledgeable.
Great architecture and great lectures. Passionate professor. He is easy to understand. Heavy memorization. Harsh grader. Finals are essays.
