Incredibly detail focused, oh god. No one got higher than a B on the midterm or paper and she did not curve it because it was our fault apparently. Annoying, scheduled all major tests and papers the day after holidays. Worst college prof I've ever had, do not take this class.
I came into this class (6K) super excited because I really enjoy art history and religion, and the class fills a ton of GE requirements. I have been so disappointed, this class is a walk through hell. She takes things very personally (if someone leaves lecture early/arrives late, she makes comments) and gives lectures that are hard to follow.
Took the class as a GE and I have never worked so hard. the class is ridiculously hard for no reason expect to memorize everything she'll ask questions about topics barely mentioned. takes attendance every lecture and is counts for a grade. NEVER TAKE HER AS A PROFESSOR sure she loves her work but you will hate her
I took this class as a GE with high expectations because I was interested in the topic, but unless you are PASSIONATE about art history/are an AH major, do NOT take this class!!! I've never been one to ever have any particular problem with teaching styles, but her lectures are VERY disorganized and hard to follow. By far the worst class I've taken.
I really like Professor Khoury and she is passionate about art history. Yes, she is a little disorganized but lectures and readings are important. She will call people out for being late, phones, ect. If you memorize things she emphasizes you will be fine. I took her my first quarter at UCSB and thought the class was interesting and fairly easy.
This professor was the worst I have had at UCSB! She is extremely disorganized yet expects her students to somehow follow along. She always says "I forgot where we left off last". She provides no study guide and her tests are extremely specific! If I were you I would avoid this professor at all costs!
I loved this class and the professor! I took 6K as a freshman and it really got me excited about college. The only thing I would warn is that the midterm is much easier than the final so beware. Professor Khoury posts the lectures online and it is a crucial study tool. The readings are helpful but not really essential.
This was by far the worst class I have taken at UCSB. I'm an art history minor, and this class taught me next to nothing about art history. Her lectures are extremely unorganized and difficult to follow. It felt like I was taking a poorly executed history class rather than an art history class. DO NOT take this class unless you have to.
If you're taking ARTHI 6K because you think it'll be easy and you'll get a ton of GEs done, think again. Unless you're really interested in Art History and you've got lots of time to spare for this class (ie. you aren't taking many other hard classes), this class is not for you. Sure it takes care of like 4 GE requirements, but you'll have to earn
Do not take this class unless you are required to. Lectures are extremely boring and disorganized and there is little to no organization to the class overall. The assessments are comparisons of different types of art and architecture but they're pulled from a large amount of information which you are expected to commit to memory.
Honestly, if you do not like Art History, THIS IS NOT THE CLASS FOR YOU. You WILL hate it, and you will probably do poorly. What she wants you to know isn't always the most clear, but it's easy to figure out if you just remember the places and pieces of art that she talks the most about. Go to lecture and TALK to her, she will LOVE you if you do.
By far the worst teacher I have ever had. Save yourself! Do not EVER take any of her classes.
Very disorganized class, with few transitions between topics. Section was much more helpful, but lecture itself was really hard to stay awake in. The material itself wasn't too dry, and the textbook is optional. Just don't take this class expecting some super interesting take on Islamic art. BUT the midterm, paper, and final aren't too difficult.
She is willing to help, but the material will not interest you if you don't like art history. It is unclear what she expects you to know for the exams. You can get an A if you're willing to work. I did. Sometimes lecture was dull, but I only fell asleep once. I went in with high expectations and was disappointed, but I don't regret taking it.
This class was so disorganized and you can barely understand her. Impossible not to fall asleep and attendance is mandatory. Not to mention the material is so DRY you could kill yourself. Avoid this class as a G.E. at all costs.
Worst teacher ever. Her notes and lectures were ridiculously hard to follow and it is impossible to remember the names and spellings of all the artworks.
She is the worst teacher I have ever had. Her lectures are hard to follow and really unorganized. If you ask any questions she assumes you haven't done the reading and won't answer your questions. She is an extremely picky grader.
b-0-r-i-n-g!!! high pitched voice, gets really pissed if you miss class or are late, even though shes always five minutes late and take another ten to set up the computer and slides etc. She goes off on tangents about absolutely nothing, and its hard to tell what is important to know and what is just her yammering about random crap.
I don't know about all the negative comments. I took two consecutive survey courses with her, and I really learned a lot. she specializes in architecture, so I guess that's why 6B people don't like it so much. it's Islamic architecture really. rarely any paintings. but she was pretty organized and on top of things for the two quarters I had her.
This was a horrible class. She's not a very nice person in the class, but she's pretty nice outside randomly. Maybe art history people like her...
Had her for Islam Archit and it was a great class. The material sometimes is overwhelming and seemingly unorganized, but she clarifies everything during OH. Her slides and info posted online are very helpful. She will look over your papers if you get a rough draft done early. Work hard and show up EARLY for her OH and you'll be fine.
I literally almost fell out of my chair from boredom on many occasions in her class. There are only so many floorplans of mosques one can look at. I was there in '95 and I think the dean had to get involved because everyone was failing the course.
I know she has a bad rep,but that is mainly due to here teaching abilities in lower div. survey courses. have her in upper divs and she is way better. assignments handed out weeks prior to due date is good, test are not hard, but can have some wierd questions.
the most horrible teacher i have ever had. i signed up for european art history but instead some i got some islam indian bull****. Doesnt talk about anything specific and tests do not reglect lecture. TA do all the work and are just as big of prunes
