Super sweet and really knows what she's talking about. All the information is given in lectures and sections and if you go to them it's pretty easy.
Prof. Khoury is a nice person but might be one of the worst lecturers I've ever had. Aside from her lack of technological capabilities, the lectures themselves are disorganized and uninteresting. There is no textbook that students have to get, she provides PDFs of any readings needed. Unfortunately, the readings are usually unhelpful.
Professor is very sweet and clearly passionate about the subject but she's extremely disorganized and the lectures are very hard to follow because she goes on tangents and doesn't present information in an organized way. This is a horrible class to take as a GE, if you need to fulfill one of its GE requirements just take a different class.
As much as prof Khoury is clearly a professional in her field, that does not benefit you as the student. Her lectures often go off into tangents and you never know whether you will need anything she says on the exams, WHICH ARE DETAILED with very niche questions (that sometimes will include a random reading). TAs are your saviours in this class
I took this class as a GE but would not do that again, it was too much work and very confusing. Professor Khoury lectures are confusing and poorly organize. The assigned readings aren't super helpful and are very dense. The only saving grace was section because my TA was able to clarify topics.
Prof Khoury is super sweet. She doesn't post her slides, so lectures are mandatory for detailed notes. If you aren't an Art History major or interested in the discipline, this class is pretty hard. Only two writing assignments, midterm and final. If you don't want to think critically or use your brain, do not take this class.
If you're taking an Art class just to satisfy your GE requirements, I suggest you avoid this class for every reason you could think of. Let me just say, the TA was the unsung hero for this class.
great professor
By far the worst professor I've ever had at UCSB in my almost 4 years here. I'm an art hist major and I sat there questioning my life choices every lecture. Jumps from a 1-2 pg paper to a 7-8 page research paper (its lower div). Went on ridiculous tangents, impossible to follow lecture/material, and way too much useless info. Don't do it.
By far the worst professor I have ever had. Consistent disorganization in lecture, repetitive and useless information, and inability to connect with students is what you'll find in this class. Very easy content, but my God, Nuha is impossible to listen to for even an hour and 15 minutes 2 days a week. TA's really save her ass b/c she's incompetent
Pretty tough class for a GE, but definitely doable. Professor and TAs are helpful on papers, and it's clear what you need to memorize from image reviews and lecture.
She is a super sweet lady and is totally willing to talk after class but her lectures are kinda useless because her slides are worthless (they're so jumbled and have so little clear information) and she covers the same topics over and over again although the repetitiveness provides very little clarity. Also, her essay topics are so vague!
Khoury was very scattered. You could tell she was very passionate about the topic, but her lectures were super hard to follow and she would often get off track. Try to sit in the front row if you want to avoid falling asleep. She takes attendance randomly and it counts for the grade, so I recommend going to every class even though it doesn't help.
Professor Khoury is one of those teachers who truly loves her subject matter and does a good job of passing that onto you. Her lectures can, however, be a bit disorganized and not well-managed for time. A fun class, but it might be hard and/or boring if you aren't an art/history person. A lot is covered, so get ready to study.
Incredibly detail focused, oh god. No one got higher than a B on the midterm or paper and she did not curve it because it was our fault apparently. Annoying, scheduled all major tests and papers the day after holidays. Worst college prof I've ever had, do not take this class.
I came into this class (6K) super excited because I really enjoy art history and religion, and the class fills a ton of GE requirements. I have been so disappointed, this class is a walk through hell. She takes things very personally (if someone leaves lecture early/arrives late, she makes comments) and gives lectures that are hard to follow.
Took the class as a GE and I have never worked so hard. the class is ridiculously hard for no reason expect to memorize everything she'll ask questions about topics barely mentioned. takes attendance every lecture and is counts for a grade. NEVER TAKE HER AS A PROFESSOR sure she loves her work but you will hate her
I took this class as a GE with high expectations because I was interested in the topic, but unless you are PASSIONATE about art history/are an AH major, do NOT take this class!!! I've never been one to ever have any particular problem with teaching styles, but her lectures are VERY disorganized and hard to follow. By far the worst class I've taken.
I really like Professor Khoury and she is passionate about art history. Yes, she is a little disorganized but lectures and readings are important. She will call people out for being late, phones, ect. If you memorize things she emphasizes you will be fine. I took her my first quarter at UCSB and thought the class was interesting and fairly easy.
I loved this class and the professor! I took 6K as a freshman and it really got me excited about college. The only thing I would warn is that the midterm is much easier than the final so beware. Professor Khoury posts the lectures online and it is a crucial study tool. The readings are helpful but not really essential.
This was by far the worst class I have taken at UCSB. I'm an art history minor, and this class taught me next to nothing about art history. Her lectures are extremely unorganized and difficult to follow. It felt like I was taking a poorly executed history class rather than an art history class. DO NOT take this class unless you have to.
If you're taking ARTHI 6K because you think it'll be easy and you'll get a ton of GEs done, think again. Unless you're really interested in Art History and you've got lots of time to spare for this class (ie. you aren't taking many other hard classes), this class is not for you. Sure it takes care of like 4 GE requirements, but you'll have to earn
Do not take this class unless you are required to. Lectures are extremely boring and disorganized and there is little to no organization to the class overall. The assessments are comparisons of different types of art and architecture but they're pulled from a large amount of information which you are expected to commit to memory.
Honestly, if you do not like Art History, THIS IS NOT THE CLASS FOR YOU. You WILL hate it, and you will probably do poorly. What she wants you to know isn't always the most clear, but it's easy to figure out if you just remember the places and pieces of art that she talks the most about. Go to lecture and TALK to her, she will LOVE you if you do.
