Lectures were pretty boring but overall an easy class if you take notes. Review key terms in textbook and you will do fine!
I hope you don't mind watching Pro-Communism propaganda films. He is a communist and is not shy about it. If you hate capitalism and love communism, you will love him. His lectures are very boring, he can't pronounce the word "gourd" and that was amusing, but otherwise, get plenty of sleep before class or you will pass out during lecture.
Super great person to talk to during office hours.
Prof Walsh seems like a good guy, but his lectures get very boring. I tend to tune them out, but I am doing fine as of now. There is 1 midterm, the final, an ethnographic paper, 2 online exercises, and participation that makes up your grade. It's pretty easy overall. (The due date for our paper was the Monday after Thanksgiving which sucked.)
Super nice and friendly guy. Lectures varied and sometimes were almost completely unrelated to the readings. Midterm/final was VERY lecture-heavy, so go to class. I personally thought the one paper was interesting and not too hard, and the class overall was a breeze and fairly graded. Ended up getting an A+ with minimum effort.
Professor Walsh's tests are really heavily based on both the book and the material in his lectures (which is no where in the textbook). You have one main paper to do, along with a multiple choice midterm and final. His lectures can get a little boring because he teaches his beliefs or previous projects, but it's a relatively easy class.
Fine teacher but his lectures can be pretty boring because he'll talk go into minute details of specific case studies instead of lecturing on the actual topics of the course. Regardless, decently easy to get an A. Midterm is way easier than final. Midterm textbook terms. Final textbook terms/themes, lectures, movies, etc.
Walsh is pretty straight forward. Whatever he says you should learn is what is usually on tests. Grades very fairly.
This class is supposed to be about culture, but Walsh made it about agriculture and it was boring! He made a good portion of the test, which changed this year to multiple choice, about his lectures that were hard to follow and the power points were minimal at best. The book, which is the only good thing about the class, was barely tested on.
Keep up with the reading, study your notes, and do all the side stuff he says to and this class will be a breeze. The midterm and final are free if you study enough, and the paper is either super easy or kinda hard depending on how hard your TA grades it.
This class really got me interested in ANTH. The lectures are rather slow and people fall asleep all the time, but there's a lot of really interesting topics involved. Section is important, I did good on the paper for this class thanks to the prep in my section. Overall, you can do well on both midterm and final fairly easily. Just pay attention.
It's a basic intro class that I recommend. Professor doesn't post slides so I suggest going to lecture because he can ask questions about it on the midterm and final. There's also a study guide so if you know the terms and go to lecture you'll do fine in the class. He's a nice professor although the lectures could be dry at times.
Passionate but boring. Easy A for a ge. Theres two tests and one paper
Lectures were VERY boring, the multiple choice midterm and final were relatively easy if you study the lectures and skim the textbook. A pretty easy class to take for credits.

Walsh is pretty nice dude and is clearly passionate about the subject. Going to lecture is necessary since he doesn't post slides online. Midterm and final were both only 40 multiple choice questions so nothing too difficult.
Two textbook used. The professor gave us two weeks(during the final) to read a 177-page book and my TA told me it would take 15% of final exam. I read them all but finally found there was only one question related to this book. Too many films to watch, each lasting about 1.5 hours. The average grade of my final is C+ but no curve.
Walsh is a pretty good professor but lectures can get dull. We read a good portion of the textbook, but it wasn't horrible material. One paper, an online project and this boring ethnography. Not too bad.
I took this class for GE requirement. It was okay actually but you have to read the textbook. Both lecture notes and the book will be on midterm and final.
This class is pretty easy if you do that work. Don't procrastinate on the ethnographic paper, its worth a quarter of your grade. There aren't many opportunities for extra points, so don't slack off on the midterm, paper, or final because those are what make up your grade.
If you miss class for any reason, Walsh doesn't post the lectures online, making it very difficult to catch up unless you can get notes from someone else in the class.
I didn't really enjoy all of the material that was presented in this class, but it wasn't unbearable. Dr. Walsh is pretty enthusiastic. The midterm and final tests aren't too bad, but they definitely should be taken seriously. I made the mistake of "feeling it out" on the midterm and paid for it. Do the readings and go to lecture as he doesn't post
This class wasn't too difficult... if you went to lecture. Midterm and final questions were taken from lecture so its important that you have the notes, questions are given beforehand so you can prepare. Textbook not super mandatory but will help. This class wasn't too interesting and he goes into extreme detail on trivial things.
He tends to ramble on during lectures but literally goes over everything that you're "supposed" to be reading. Only projects you have are the ethnographic paper and the Dewey project. Midterm and final questions are given beforehand. All a matter of paying attention.
