Chase is one of the best professors I've had at UCSB. He is passionate about the topics he teaches and his lectures are interesting and easy to follow. He is clear about his expectations/grade requirements and is very understanding of students' needs. There is a lot of reading, but he goes over most of them in lecture.

he's super nice but the lectures can occasionally get boring, the discussions are interesting though

Hobbs-Morgan is definitely tough--he makes you work for it, but I feel like I'm a better writer now because of it. Grade is based on 2 papers, 1 final paper, & participation, so make sure you attend class and section and engage with the discussion because they keep track. The material was interesting which is always a plus!

Hobbs-Morgan is an amazing professor and teaches pols1 incredibly well. This class was really hard, but they make it inspiring and manageable.

Professor Hobbs is really nice and the lecture is mostly organized, but there's so much reading like almost 50+ every week. Definitely tough graders he usually states the average in his class is a C which he states is average for him. Don't take for a GE

The negatives outweighed the positives. He reads from a script 99% of the time. Quizzes are a huge chunk of your grade, out of 10 points & have multiple right answers, sometimes even incoherent. I read & took extensive notes & still got massive grade drops for small mistakes. Both prof & TA don't understand flexibility for students and their grades

This class was very challenging but that is a given due to the subject matter. I absolutely loved Professor Hobbs-Morgan and my TA Andrew Johnson. Both truly had students best interests at heart which is such a relief because not all Profs and TAs are like that. Prof. Hobbs-Morgan deserves tenure. He is an exceptional teacher and person.

Ps1 is a very tough class but he's the right guy to take for it. Explains stuff well but succeeding is largely dependent on being able to read closely, as weekly quizzes ask very specific questions. Essays are graded toughly but not unreasonably. Overall, he makes a difficult subject more manageable, and is also a kind, helpful person.

I love this professor I'm taking him again for POL S 189. He really cares and gives bonus points because switching to online is difficult and he gets that. His class is hard but in a good way. The reading is dense and his quizzes are based on context which challenges you to think beyond just the lectures. I really recommend him!

Very dedicated professor and is genuinely interested and knowledgably of political theory. Makes a lot of effort to make sure students understand the material if it is challenging.

Subject matter was a little dry, but he was really inclusive and included some interesting texts. There is a lot of reading!! Overall a good class, you can tell he really cares about his students. He does talk a little slow though, so I watched lectures on 1.5X speed.

Professor was very kind and willing to help. The class was very interesting but the grading was extremely subjective and tough. TAs were horrible and graded extremely harshly. The essay prompts, which are the bulk of your grade, are very vague and poorly communicated.

Professor is really kind and interesting but grade really depends on the TA. Material is dense but understandable but again, if you have a bad TA you probably won't get an A. Grading is super tough and the feedback is unhelpful. Loved the professor though, hated the class.
