Pellow is the best professor I've had at UCSB — so passionate, experienced, and caring. He's such a funny guy and every lecture was interesting. 2 take-home essays (not bad at all), a few in-class quizzes (more of a participation incentive), and a final project (choose from several options, can really do whatever you want). Such an important class.
The goat, class was mostly about environmental justice and theory. Two 2 page essays, and a final 5 page project, or you could choose to do an art project which had less writing.
Professor Pellow is truly the best teacher I have ever been taught by. His classes have changed my worldview and career path. He is extremely empathetic, and cares about his students learning and success. If you have him be prepared to have a great time learning!
I love Professor Pellow's classes. They are really informative and inspiring. He always implements new studies and research being done into course materials, and makes sure to cover a diverse range of topics. Could not recommend this class more! You just need participation, 2 open note midterms, and a final project.
Incredibly passionate, his class offers valuable & sometimes unconventional perspectives. For Env S 116 - Sustainable Communities, just be aware the course description is a little misleading. Content is focused heavily on social & environmental injustice issues, rather than policy/technological solutions towards building sustainable communities.
Pellow really understands the life of a student. The concepts he chooses to teach encompass more on actions rather than just learning. He wants to make the class fun for everyone so that students really take in everything they learned in the class and incorporate it into the real world. Kind, fun and an expert to what he teaches... the best prof.
He was such a lovely and easy going guy. Take home tests that are short answer based on class and readings. Readings are a little long. Pop quizzes in class are open note and easy. Really cares about the subject matter. Take him if you have the chance!
David Pellow is by far one of the best professors at UCSB. He is SO passionate and opens your mind to topics that are relevant to our society! His tests are very dense and require critical thinking, but easy. Tests challenge you to think! Would take another class with him!
Favorite class I have taken at UCSB. Amazing lecturer who completely changed the way I view sustainability. Large amount of reading but are explained in section. Highly recommend
Great professor! Makes the class fun and engaging. Fair amount of readings but easily manageable.
The best new professor at UCSB. Passionate, honest, entertaining, his voice belongs in a choir, and he takes every opportunity to challenge how your perceive the system and ways to change it. Quizzes: (3-4) take the form of group discussion (not real quizzes). 2 Essays: (midterm&final) Challenging topics, but so much prompt that it's easy to write.
professor is so well-informed, passionate, and overall an amazing guy. no in person midterm or final, weekly readings for section but they were very interesting and overall highly recommend this class. a couple random in class assignments, but lots of extra credit opportunities too!
One of my favorite professors at UCSB! He's super passionate about the subject and made lectures super interesting. Go to lecture and you'll be fine.
ENVS3 with Pellow is a super easy GE. His lectures are packed with information and you can tell he is super passionate about the material. No exams, just two take-home essays and a final project that are super open ended. You don't need to go to lecture if you don't want to but there are in-class pop quizzes sometimes so make sure to go for those.
Go to lecture as slides do not have much content and he elaborates in class. Two easy essays that are thoroughly explained and final project. Both allow a lot of variation. Easy to talk to and loved attending his engaging lectures. My TA Nolan was also great and offered a ton of help for whatever questions I had. Overall, easy GE and learned a lot
Genuinely so slight. Incredibly passionate about his work and preachings. Class consists of 2 essays and a final project that are sooooo easy. My TA Brenda was awesome and I actually looked forward to going to sections. Take this class!
passionate, great lecturer, nice guy
David Pellow is a really good professor. Most of the essays are on lecture materials so don't miss one since he won't put a lot of information in the lecture slides, so, please attend his lectures. He is passionate about his lectures and is an easy class to take. Also be aware of in-class exercises since it could happen at any point in a lecture.
Best professor ever. So funny, and genuinely so interesting. The class was easy, two essays, and a final project. Loved this class and the professor so highly higlyyy recommend.
Easy GE: graded by sporadic 5 in-class reflections (low stress), 2 papers, and a final project. Slides are very vague, so attendance is important as he expands a lot on the topics being discussed. First 30 mins of lecture is just shoutouts tbh. D1 hater of both political parties: I love that bald man.
The best professor I have ever had at UCSB
Hands down the best professor in Environmental Studies at UCSB. Professor Pellow is so caring, passionate and strikingly involved in the community and with many organizations. His lectures are interesting, he's really funny and he really tries to know his students.
Pellow is so inspirational! He's passionate but political. 3 essays and a big final but all writing. Sections are just discussions lots of participation. Attendance is random in class assignments which are open for that class period but they're easy and a reflection of lecture material. Slides posted but little info so notes are from him speaking.
I like him better than my dad
