Professor Pellow is truly the best teacher I have ever been taught by. His classes have changed my worldview and career path. He is extremely empathetic, and cares about his students learning and success. If you have him be prepared to have a great time learning!

If you have a chance to take David's class you are SO lucky. By far one of the best profs, he's super chill, offers extra credit, and gives extensions. He does field trips and brings in great guest lecturers. His material is actually current, relative to the real world, and important. There are so few black profs to look up to at UCSB. Love him!!!

I love Professor Pellow's classes. They are really informative and inspiring. He always implements new studies and research being done into course materials, and makes sure to cover a diverse range of topics. Could not recommend this class more! You just need participation, 2 open note midterms, and a final project.

Incredibly passionate, his class offers valuable & sometimes unconventional perspectives. For Env S 116 - Sustainable Communities, just be aware the course description is a little misleading. Content is focused heavily on social & environmental injustice issues, rather than policy/technological solutions towards building sustainable communities.

super chill dude, super outspoken about his beliefs which I appreciated. most importantly; he was SUPER understanding regarding the pandemic. didn't assign a bunch of busy work, did not expect too much from us during this really crappy time. Super solid choice and seems like a nice guy. Very inspirational.

Professor Pellow is an amazing professor who is very passionate about what he does. I enjoyed ES 155 very much and the lectures were so interesting. There are 2 take-home midterms and 3 pop quizzes and a final project that is super broad. Easy. I recommend this class to anyone.

Pellow is by far one of the most inspiring professors at UCSB. You need to go to class if you want to get an A but he keeps class interesting. Lots of reading for the course and its useful to do it (open note pop quizzes and essays based off readings/lecture concepts). The final is a project rather than a written exam. Lots of flexibility there.

Pellow really understands the life of a student. The concepts he chooses to teach encompass more on actions rather than just learning. He wants to make the class fun for everyone so that students really take in everything they learned in the class and incorporate it into the real world. Kind, fun and an expert to what he teaches... the best prof.

He was such a lovely and easy going guy. Take home tests that are short answer based on class and readings. Readings are a little long. Pop quizzes in class are open note and easy. Really cares about the subject matter. Take him if you have the chance!

David is hands down the best professor in the ES department. He is passionate about environmental justice, cares about his students, and keeps class discussions interesting. Final project is a great opportunity to branch out and focus on something you're interested in, and David really appreciates creative thinking!
