ENG10 . 3 Years Ago

Although the lectures could be a bit dull, the content was always clear. Griffin went into detail where necessary and provided a lot of his own analysis, which made taking the final super easy. Literally super easy A.

Professor Griffin was a great English professor. I received a lot of great feedback from my TA and I enjoyed the content. I would take a class with him again!

Great person, solid instructor. He was kind, humorous, patient, flexible with COVID-19 accommodations. Explained concepts well. i did get the sense that he could be flaky about following up on things, however, & kinda vague with expectations, which I think affected some people's performance. Still a great class overall.

I really liked Professor Griffin, and I feel that his adaptation from in person to virtual learning was extremely fair. He posted lectures twice a week, and provided great analysis of the required readings. If you follow the syllabus you'll know what his lectures will cover that week. His final is based completely on his lectures, so watch them!

The material Griffin talks about is interesting, but he uploads his lectures way past the time he is supposed to most weeks. They are also pretty long. It was kind of difficult to understand what we were supposed to read by the time we watch each lecture as well.

His final was very straightforward and easy, papers were graded kinda harsh. My biggest qualm though was just how disorganized his lecture was and how hard it was to follow and pay attention. I taught myself everything at the end to do well on the final but it made up for not as great paper grades.

The class itself is straightforward, however professor griffin is really unorganized with how he presents it. Is consistently late to class and usually has technical difficulties. In addition the material isnt always relevant to whats being tested or studied. This leads to him falling behind the syllabus and means more work for you to catch up.

I loved Professor Griffin's lectures! You can tell he is passionate and takes a very original angle when analyzing literature. I liked that he related the literature we studied to other works/art. He's also super funny. There are 3 essays and a final.

This GE was so much more difficult than it needed to be, the content was extremely hard to grasp because he went so fast. First off, the slide font was SO small I emailed about 3 times to get that fixed, he never did. There was SO MUCH TEXT on each slide you couldn't type it all. My TA was such a harsh grader and the guidelines were unclear.

Lectures were always interesting, and the reading was super light.

This Professor caused me nightmares. His lectures are extremely flowery, granted it's English, but its genuinely taken as a GE and was made a lot more difficult than it needed to be. The TAs had sole control of the grades and none of the grading criteria was the same across the TAs. Readings were easy and enjoyable but neither the professor or TAs.

He sometimes had some good points in lecture, but it seemed like he tried a bit too much to be funny. Regardless, it was an alright class. It meets the requirements for ENGL 10.

I came into this class having 0 interest, but ended up loving it. He makes the lectures so fun and interesting. He is such an intelligent man and I loved his teaching style. He is very easy going/laid back, and always willing to help when you ask! Griffin is a professor that wants you to succeed. Great person all-around.

I took Griffin my first English class as UCSB and thoroughly enjoyed his lectures. He cracks some corny jokes, but he keeps mostly on topic and covers multiple responses and criticism to texts in both the English 10 and 157 class. He especially loves examining modern adaptations of Renaissance lit. He gives very detailed essay feedback!

He tries to bring students in and make them feel what he feels about the plays. He's also great with disagreement: doesn't fight but does challenge. The whole class was both funny and serious.

very nice professor. always responds to e-mails. very helpful. I took him for English 10 and the T.A. graded all of my work. He was a semi-tough grader. His lectures may put you to sleep. He provided all the lectures online which was very useful for the final exam. No midterm but three papers this quarter No textbooks but two cheap novels

Wonderful guy and a solid professor. His slideshows aren't always the best, but he puts a ton of effort into each of his lectures and is always there to offer a helping hand or listen to the opinions of his students. The final was also incredibly simple and required only a little bit of reading. Definitely try to take English 10 with him.

Awesome guy, lots of fun being in this class. Would take again and again. Not too difficult, I didn't do any of the readings and got an A. Depends on your TA, though.

Don't take English 10 with anyone except for Griffin. I want to take all of his classes because he was my favorite lecture all quarter. The workload isn't that bad at all, either. I'll miss you, Andrew.

Awesome teacher. Went into a lot more detail on stuff no one else does; really interesting class. He's kinda weird and crazy, but in the best way.

Values all opinions and responds to students in lecture with further analysis of the point or helpful criticism. Incredibly helpful in office hours, enthusiastic about the material, and grades fairly. (Took Engl 10 with him and would say all the same things.) My favorite English professor at UCSB! I only wish his material was more interesting...
