He is definitely the choice for 10A. I did not succeed in his class but that's because I did not put in the work and took his teaching for granted. Compared to Hartman, he is by far the better lecturer and is far more approachable and helpful. 10A is still very difficult though but thank the dept. for that. Go to CLAS and office hours. You got this
What can I say about 10a, it really lives up to its reputation. Deschenes is a good guy and decent teacher, but I really feel it could have been done more effectively. This class is all abstract, impractical theory and really has no bearings on real economics. This class should not be tied to accounting, but that is out of my control
Professor Deschenes is a great guy and really helped me succeed in Econ 10A. He takes time to answer questions and explain concepts and focuses on the concepts that will be on the (admittedly very difficult) midterms and final. I will definitely his personal metaphor using the movie sideways so he made 10A, which is difficult, more enjoyable
Mr. Deschenes' 140B was quite enjoyable; the grading is fair and balanced, the content is concise and instructive. Also, he can be pretty funny. Outside of class, he is often willing to speak about econometrics in an engaged and helpful way. Would recommend.
I took intermediate econometrics with Prof. Deschenes a couple of semesters ago, and he was a great professor. Interesting information, really tried to make sure it was accessible to everyone, good at answering questions. Half the class was lectures and half presentations of a big partner project. Recommend taking 140B with him for sure.
One of my favorite Economics professors! He's always willing to help.
Very cool Prof, very funny, posts practice questions prior to exams, bet be aware he changes the wording on the test. Final was tough
He does not care about attendance. You do not need to buy a book for 191cc. He posts the lectures and midterm review questions online. He drops the lowest midterm grade. The final was not mainly from the review questions. He gives out the concepts that need to be covered for the final; make sure to go over them in addition to review questions.
I liked the class a lot. And he is a funny guy!!!
he is a really nice person and all but the lectures were extremely boring. very easy to get good grades on the midterms because he gives the class the questions in advance. however, i would not take the class again because the material is boring
Not as easy as everyone says. Do the homeworks ahead of time and get them right. Midterm and test questions taken directly from the homeworks and practice tests. Funny guy, just don't underestimate the class.
Great class and great professor. Clear and well structured lectures with excellent slides. Didn't even purchase the textbook and got an A.
He's a great professor. If you go to his office hours before tests and homeworks are due, you can get alot of hints and sometimes answers from him.
I love him! Best econ teacher by far!!!
He could be a little more straightforward with his lectures, but overall he's seems like a nice guy who cares about his students. All his slides and practice tests are online, although not until after class, but it helps when you just can't make it to lecture. Not as challenging as 150A with Bedard, but I'd suggest this as an econ elective.
hmmm, he said there is a curve.
Great class & professor. Most of material is basic stuff from other classes (ie supply/demand, indiff curves). Only midterm, 2 HW, and final. All quite fair. All from lectures, but book helps. Only drawback is no curve since class is pretty easy. A little studying and decent understanding of material should get at least a B.
