Wasn't the best but wasn't the worst. Did not take attendance and posted lecture slides which was super helpful. Didn't show up to almost all lectures and still passed. Gave us a huge curve at the end of the class based on everyone's scores! Very passionate about the topics but tests are wordy and lecture heavy! Focuses on minor details.

I don't know why there are so many bad reviews, the truth is if you don't pay attention or attend lecture you'll have a difficult time. Honestly his lectures are very interesting and he's clearly passionate about the subject. Just pay attention, do the work, and you'll get a good grade.

Comm 104 with Professor Reid is one of my favorite communication classes. He is a great lecturer and we watched a lot of cool animal videos. The class/tests are pretty hard but he "curves" final grades well so it evens out. Your grade is made up of 4 quizzes, 2 papers, a final, and a midterm. If you dont attend class you won't do well.

Scott is a funny guy. He's got an Australian accent and tries to make class interesting, but the energy just isn't there. His lectures are not super engaging and not mandatory, but practically are due to the fact that his slides are sparse and impossible to follow without being in lecture. Quizzes and tests are decently hard.

Professor Reid is incredible. Absolutely adored his lectures and his humor. Super engaging and highly knowledgeable. Its a difficult course because of the science heavy content but its so worth it. I would highly reccommend this class. This is what higher education is for. Beautiful educational experiences with seasoned academic professionals.

Was only a 3-week course, but was one of the best classes I have taken. He was fantastic, excited and passionate about his area of study. Very science-based, a unique course in the major. Lectures are essential and without them you will be lost. Will take the time to talk through concepts and the paper, so go to office hours if you can.

I sincerely love this man lol. It's a tough class. I took it over summer so only 4 weeks... Was tough to keep up. Lots of science content but overall so insightful and intersting. The tests are hard but its an incentive to stay engaged. Prof Reid's lectures are amazing so showing up and paying attention is not a big ask. Wish I put in more work tho

Most interesting class I've ever taken at UCSB, but it's def not a comm class it's 100% a science class. You have to go to lecture to succeed and textbooks aren't required. The tests are really hard tbh. The papers are only 2 pages and really saved my grade although grading depends on your TA for the term. I would recommend but it's challenging...

He is teaching communicative concepts through an evolutionary/biological lens so the class is very science heavy which sucks for us comm majors. Lectures are hard to understand. class structure is 4 quizzes, 2 essays, 2 tests. I have no idea how I passed the tests. essays were graded very easily but prompts were weird. he has a cool accent though.

I wish professor Reid taught all of my classes. I've taken every class that he offers they're all so interesting. I can't recommend him enough. All the professors in the comm department should learn from him. If you actually want to learn something and challenge yourself, take his class. Yes the tests are hard but thats how it should be.

The two-page papers are hard and graded harshly, especially the TA Alex Aune is somewhat mean. Exams are also not easy to get a good grade. But Prof. Reid himself is a very knowledgeable cool guy with hilarious lectures and helpful feedback.

Prof Reid is the coolest! He has you engage with the material so I felt like I really understood. He gives great feedback so if you go to him for the papers you'll get a good grade. He is very reasonable and offered 2 extra credit opportunities. He is also high energy and has an aussie accent so class was super entertaining .

Great Professor. One of the most interesting classes I've ever taken. If you're interested in Psychology you'll love this one. Assignments seem intimidating but he's super helpful. Tough grader but what is the point of going to college if you're not learning how to do hard things and getting better at it.

Hard but very INTERESTING class. Did not like at first because of expectations. This is not your typical communication class. Don't expect this to be about communication theories and research etc. It is ALL about EVOLUTIONARY PSYCHOLOGY. Difficult tests. Two challenging papers (graded fairly) but learned a lot. Pay attention and take good notes.

Avoid if at all possible. Nice guy and very helpful, however has VERY unreasonable expectations. Does not give a study guide for tests, so studying 17 pages of lecture notes proved unhelpful, as the questions were incredibly specific and wordy. Seemed to be more about his love for evolution and development rather than communication. SO frustrating.

Prof. Reid is one of the best lecturers I've had in the Comm department. He treats all his students as if they will one day contribute to the field, and truly preps you to think scientifically. This class changed my perspective on human comm and social psychology. Not to mention, Prof. Reid is funny, very laid back, and willing to help you do well.

Reid is a great professor. Funny lectures, really nice guy, and loves to help his students. His classes require work, but if you go to the lectures and listen to his instructions carefully, it's a guarantied A. I also strongly suggest going to his office hours when writing your papers. His help is a game changer.

I am a Comm major and I will just say that this guy caught me off guard. The 3 papers were simple and short and really made me think this would be an easy B or A. Then.. the final came.. and it was the hardest test I have ever taken. Just study hard and prepare yourself for the final gauchos.

Enthusiastic professor and very interesting class material. Professor can be funny but some of his comments can also come off as arrogant. Tests are easy enough and he posts his lecture slides on Gauchospace. A little absent-minded so double check the dates he provides as due dates. Doesn't always give the clearest feedback.

Professor Yuan-Fang Wang is the worst instructor I have ever had for anything ever. He is willing to intentionally punish the class via exam difficulty.

Take his class if you like a challenge in that you need to learn everything yourself as coming to his worthless lectures is as good as wasting time. Otherwise if you take his class you might as well be mentally challenged and my deepest condolences to you.

DO NOT take any classes taught by this professor. His lectures are full of math equations that he doesn't explain whatsoever, no one learn anything in lecture so only like 5 people show up out of 100 people. I can guarantee you will regret taking his classes.

Lectures are pointless to attend

Probably the worst engineering professor I have had at UCSB. He could literally teach PEMDAS and make it seem impossibly confusing. Gets frustrated that no one shows up to class, so rather than improving the lectures, he makes the tests intentionally punishing. TAs can't help because they don't get solutions to HW assignments. Avoid at all costs.
