An awesome professor that engages with the classroom. Online material so that you can catch up on anything missed. He lets you choose if you do homework or not but be warned, everything else is graded on tests.
Scott Price is one of the most amazing professors I have had so far. He is so caring about his students and very passionate about what he is teaching which makes his lectures easy to follow. If you have a chance to take the chem series with him, DO IT because if you work hard and drill the practice exams he gives for the midterms, you will pass.
Dr. Price is an amazing professor and I have only positive things to say about him! His lectures are very engaging and he explains all the course material very clearly. Even though the class is difficult and requires you to put in work and time, the material is very manageable. Price has made me love chemistry after taking it this quarter for 1B.
Really good professor, the practice exams he gives out saved my life. If you go to lecture and do the work, you will definitely pass with a B or higher.
Price was definitely my favorite professor in the gen chem series (I had different ones for each chem class). he's very clear and concise with his explanations and his tests were not too overly difficult. loved his class!
professor price is definitely the best chemistry professor at ucsb. even though the gen chem series is super difficult and time-consuming, he makes it as digestible as possible. lectures are also posted online!
Dr. Price is an AMAZING chem professor, couldn't ask for anyone better for Chem1a. The material is challenging if you've never taken a chem course before but he made it as easy as possible. Tests are very fair but there's not a lot of questions on them, so make sure to do practice problems and do all of the ALEKS
1B is not difficult to understand but easy to mess up. However, he maximizes your grade - such as dropping the lowest/missing midterm score, so you will still do well if you do the work. I liked his neat, step-by-step teaching style and online videos. Everything he wanted from us was clear. ALEKS is optional, but it buffers your grade.
As much as I hate Chem, Price is an amazing professor. Responds to emails super quick and truly wants the best for his students. Lowest midterm grade is replaced if you get a higher score on the final, so make sure to do the practice problems and exams. Pretty big time frame to do the ALEKS assignments as well.
I got A-, A, B for the Gen Chem series. There's a lot of debate over which prof is best. If you like exam predictability, take Price. Do every practice problem he assigns and you will get an A/B, and this is a weeder class. He treats his students as adults, unlike Joseph. He explains well. This will be harder than any HS class you've ever done.
Great all around. Very organized, fair, and engaging.
Took in Spring 2022. This class is so easy. I just went to the lecture hall three times to take the exams and got an A, although it turned out the first time was unnecessary since the final could replace a lower midterm.
His lectures made everything very clear and easy to follow. His practice tests were very similar to what his actual tests were like. As long as you are willing to put in the time to do the homework and do the optional textbook problems and actually study, he is a great teacher and his class is not too difficult.
I believe Price made chem as easy as it could be (still a bit hard for me). He uploads lectures and is very clear at explanations. Unfortunately tests are multiple choice (no partial credit), but his practice tests helped me enough to get passing grades. I didn't like using Aleks for homework, but it forced me to spend time practicing each week.
If you are not confident in chem TAKE PRICE!! I'm a PBS major who was just taking chem to take the bio series and Price was the best. I had failed 1B the first time with Joseph and was able to get an A with Price. You don't have to do every single book problem to pass, but definitely try to do a couple a day!
I hated chemistry since I was at my middle school because the teachers made me confused a lot in this subject. But Price's class restored my academic confidence in chemistry. Taking his course is one of the best things I ever did! He is very time-manageable in delivering lectures and gives lots of practice exams.
Everyone said Chem 1B was the hardest but I honestly found it just as doable as Chem 1A. And the ONLY reason is because of Price. This man is a God send. He breaks down the most difficult concepts into ways you can understand. AMAZING lectures. And his tests are extremely fair. No trick questions. He genuinely wants all his students to succeed.
Barely got through his class, but he was a great prof and definitely the best one I had when taking the gen chem series.
UCSB as an academic institution is blessed to have someone like Scott Price ever walk on their campus. This man is a gem. He will take some of the most frustrating topics such as Quantum Mechanics or Thermodynamics, and perfectly explain them conceptually for you later to apply. Email him? will respond fast. Reach out for advice? will give the best
take him you wont regret it :)
Price makes lectures super accessible online and I recommend reviewing content and example questions through his online lectures. However the tests, especially the final, are significantly harder than expected based on lecture content. The tests go way more in depth than we do in class and I have always needed outside help. Great prof, hard class
I'm so in love w him. This prof is everything.
I actually am in love with Professor Price and his teaching. I had a tough run with 1A but 1B was such a turn around because I did the book problems as suggested. If you do what he suggests cumulatively throughout the quarter then you will pass!! Cramming only makes things harder in this course.
Price is one of my favorite chem professors. His lectures and clear and easy to follow, and the tests are straight forward. If you do the book problems and pay attention in lecture you will be fine.
