A seminar-style workshop that introduces students to the contributions, careers, and backgrounds of diverse researchers in STEM fields. The goals of the class are (1) to expose participants to the multicultural and diverse ways of thinking about, performing, and interpreting science; and (2) to foment the appreciation for how We, as a community, can move towards creating a STEM field that is more inclusive of diverse contributions and individuals. Students are responsible for completing short assignments, show-casing a specific scientist, and directed readings on diversity in STEM. Participants are encouraged to reflect on their own experiences and bring their unique perspectives and opinions to each discussion.

CollegeHe's a good guy but makes doesn't seem to double check his exams before writing them.
Professor Gonzalez is a very nice person. However his midterm is not so much related to his lecture and is extremely hard.
Do not take Lalo unless you absolutely have to. His lectures are SO hard to follow and I often leave lecture even more confused than before I went. I understand major classes like these require a lot of outside work, but If I'm not even understanding the basics of the material during the lecture, how am I expected to succeed in this class at all?
The people in these comments are doing Lalo SOOO dirty. He is genuinely one of the best professors at UCSB. Him and Mike are the perfect duo and I wish they taught every single class in this school. If you get a bad grade, that means you didn't put in the work since they gave us all the resources to do amazing. Stop hating and start working!
Professor Gonzalez is the worst professor I have ever had at UCSB. His lecturing makes everything confusing and often feel so lost. He does iClickers daily, two midterms and a cumulative final. Other online videos have been my best friend. He also makes snarky remarks weekly about how we should know this stuff and it will be on the exams.
His exams are always ridiculously difficult and he’ll often test details from the lecture sides that he doesn’t even get to sometimes. If you want to pass the class, you better read the textbook instead bc his lectures are nearly impossible to follow unless you are already like 80% of the content.
