Pretty straightforward class. Decent professor. Your TA matters. Gabriel Sevallos is a very good TA.

One of THE BEST professors!!! I loved her lectures because they were so interesting and it showed she really cared. Such a sweet person and I hope I can take more of her classes( even though I am not a history major). My TA was the sweetest and truly cared plus an easy grader. 100% recommend.

This prof is very good at lectures. She makes it feel like you are listening to a really good audiobook. Just make sure you DON'T have Mark Makukutsi as your TA unless you LOVE lots of reading and history.

Paper heavy, and we had blue book tests (switched due to AI use). I felt strongly that she is one of the most passionate lecturers I've had at UCSB. Gave great lectures and if you were attentive you could do great as lectures are extremely key. You can really feel the dedication here, despite the plain structuring of the class.

Passionate and knowledgeable lecturer. I suspect she'll make exams in person bc lots of people abused AI for the midterm and she made the final in person. TA's are allergic to giving over 95s in the history dept so if you want an A it is not easy to get. Readings are interesting and reasonable, accessible for nonmajors.

Prof. Perrone is a great lecturer. Midterm was a take-home essay. Unfortunately a lot of people were using AI for their essays so she made the final in person closed note essays...Still a good class. All readings are on canvas or free. Passionate.
