PERRONE G
Paper heavy, and we had blue book tests (switched due to AI use). I felt strongly that she is one of the most passionate lecturers I've had at UCSB. Gave great lectures and if you were attentive you could do great as lectures are extremely key. You can really feel the dedication here, despite the plain structuring of the class.
Passionate and knowledgeable lecturer. I suspect she'll make exams in person bc lots of people abused AI for the midterm and she made the final in person. TA's are allergic to giving over 95s in the history dept so if you want an A it is not easy to get. Readings are interesting and reasonable, accessible for nonmajors.
Prof. Perrone is a great lecturer. Midterm was a take-home essay. Unfortunately a lot of people were using AI for their essays so she made the final in person closed note essays...Still a good class. All readings are on canvas or free. Passionate.
She's amazing. My favorite professor I've taken at UCSB so far.
She's very passionate which makes me enjoy lecture.
the professor is really good. the lectures are not mandatory, but incredibly interesting and helpful for writing the papers. if i were to take this course again however, i would definitely pick a better TA. not helpful with the feedback and incredibly snarky. its been extremely difficult with correspondence and feedback.
Her lectures are phenomenal & very informative. If she is not as knowledgeable, she brings in a guest professor who is an expert on the topic. Although you can tell her political bias, she is very good at giving the facts, not opinions. Class is easy. 3 op-ed's & sections are the grades. The final is an optional op-ed rewrite for a higher grade.
Lectures had absolutely nothing to do with what was graded. I went to literally 1 lecture the entire quarter. She lectures and u pick what u write about. Gives out extensions for papers no matter what. Section attendance mandatory. Essays are graded kinda hard but not really. Final is optional. Such a light class! Recommend
The course was very easy with only three Op-Ed papers and an optional rewrite as the “final.” Perrone is super knowledgeable throughout her lectures. We had many guest speakers, as well. Attendance was not mandatory to do well. There is a bit of reading, but just skimming through the articles before section should suffice.
I highly recommend taking History 5 with Prof. Perrone! She's a fantastic lecturer and clearly explained difficult topics, including: The Electoral College, History of Third Parties, Abortion, and the War in Ukraine. She also brought in guest speakers which was super cool. Homework is online readings. No final. Just write write 3 short op-eds.
Great class to take over the summer. Only graded on one paper (4-6 pages), weekly forum posts, section participation, and the final. Really engaging lectures for an online class.
I took the online summer session for this course and was amazed at how engaging the lectures were despite being recorded! I can imagine her in person classes are even better.
