CollegeAttendance is mandatory, but classes are simple. There are four listening quiz and writing quiz. His lectures and readings are boring, but you don't need to watch them.
Professor Malvinni is very knowledgeable about music but sometimes his lectures would get boring. At the beginning of each class, he'd put up a code for us to submit on Canvas. If you can have Dian as your TA, you will succeed greatly. Some closed-note quizzes required a Blue Book and memorization of terms. The other quizzes were open-note.
Took this for my art requirement, very interesting and easy class. He is disorganized but the TAs help clarify what's important for quizzes and exams, and he's accessible during office hours. It's great to have a professor who is passionate about what they teach. I highly recommend this, was gonna take mus15 but it was full and this is way better!
Honestly, I learned more from my TA than Malvinni. He's passionate about what he's teaching, but he's very disorganized and the class structure was confusing. He was also a little quiet. Focus on sections, and put in effort there instead. Lecture was cool when guests performed, but otherwise is unnecessary. Overall easy class.
It's a super awesome course. Lecture attendance was a big part of the grade so easy points, and so is section attendance. We had a couple of big assignments, like a presentation in a section, and one paper. But nothing super hard. Fun class and I would recommend it.
One of the most disorganized professor's at UCSB. Lecture's are extremely dense with no clear structure and he just talks about his own opinions the whole time. Half the material he covers are about his personal favorite artists and not pop culture. But its easy to get an A in the class as long as you pay slight attention and review the question
