This seminar offers an overview of the way our conceptualization of Love and Desire has shaped Western thought from its inception to the present. Love lies at the intersection of sexual passion, religious mysticism, and social utopia. To explore how Love and Desire have been explored throughout the centuries in the Iberian Peninsula and Latin America, we will pay attention to literature and music. Prof. Cortijo is very friendly and explores broader connections to real-world concepts with course content. Attendance not taken but homework assignment is a paper and he gives the prompt at the end of class. Comfortable environment but definitely participation heavy and he somewhat calls on you.

Prof. Silvia is honestly just mean. No matter what answer you give she will find something wrong with it. Easy class so might be worth it to take but just be ready for her to be angry at everything.

Although some may find her blunt and a bit intimidating at times, which she can be I personally found her to be kind. Her teaching style is firm and straightforward, especially in lectures, which can feel intense. But it's clear she genuinely cares about the subject. The class itself isn't bad at all—it's composed of three short papers.

I totally understand why other reviewers think she was tough, but in this class and my experience personally, I really liked her. She definitely leads with a hard hand, but she cared about this subject and taught it well. She is also really kind in private, but in lecture can come off as menacing. I give her 5/5 for her dedication to this subject.

It's all true. The worst professor I have had the misfortune of meeting my entire academic career. Rude, belittling, and just neurotically insane to be honest. She yells at and scolds the class daily about effort yet literally did not even lecture once. On the final class she stormed out after mocking students in response to feedback on the course.

When we asked for help in this class, the professor rudely criticized us for wanting it and shamed us for not knowing better. The class itself was pretty difficult because there were no rubrics to their high expectations, but the TAs eventually helped us. Overall, the professor makes the class very unlikable and makes you want to stay home.
