Lectures were dense but when I paid attention and engaged with the material, I actually quite enjoyed the content and Moak's teaching style (keep in mind I am a History major). Exams were a mix of IDs and short essay/essay questions that TAs prepare you well for.

Moak is clearly passionate about the material but most of the lectures are pretty boring. As long as you understand how the topics are connected to each other, the exams (which have vocab and essays) aren't too bad. There is iClicker for the lectures and a group presentation in section but overall this class wasn't a lot of work.

Very passionate abt the topics & would crack jokes in lectures. MANDATORY iClicker attendance. For those taking as a GE: 68% of your grade is an in-person midterm & final (both have an ID + essay), & 2 online MCQs. I NEVER did the readings & did well! There's also a section grp project. YOUR GRADE DEPENDS SOLELY ON HOW YOUR TA IS W/ GRADING ESSAYS!

good class; some concepts are hard to grasp due to unclear explanation. attendance is mandatory because of iclicker, the readings aren't too bad (he provides access to the textbook for free). midterm was pretty hard and final was the same. one group project in your section, but overall not a bad class and he's nice and cares about his students.

Professor Moak is awesome. He's very laid-back and likes to engage with his students (He is kind of silly). His analyis of the books we read was very interesting and the topic of the class was entertaining. You will have to read a bit but there are simple true/false quizzes, an essay midterm, and a fun creative essay at the end. Take this class!

If you are interested in French 1, take it with Moak! He is a great professor and has a passion for his work. He teaches like 85% French and 15% English. However, you can easily understand everything without prior exposure to French. Just make sure to finish homework and participate. Don't skip lectures cuz he teaches lots of stuff in each lecture.
