SPAN W 2 is the second of the three Elementary Spanish courses offered in a fully online format. Its online format combines technology-based language instruction with online class meetings and live guided conversation sessions. Course materials and activities focus on consolidating the same array of skills promoted in the regular Elementary Span II course. Students learn to use Spanish for communication in real, meaningful situations, develop an understanding of basic grammatical concepts and an appreciation of the various cultures of the Spanish-speaking world. Each week, students attend one online class session and one conversation session. There is individual work with the textbook, online materials, and other web-based activities.

CollegeShe never really goes over the material in class. You are just thrown to the breeze to have discussions in Spanish while she does not help or assist in the learning in any way. You do not go over any of the homework so you do not know where you are going wrong and what you need to improve on until it shows up on your exam.
So brutal. She is a nice profesor, but this class was so hard. She graded very strictly to the rules and was not lenient at all compared to other teacher who were actually of Spanish decent. She was willing to meet outside of class, but would not help with essays.
the worst professor i've had at UCSB. not sure who is getting an A in this class, because she grades so harshly and is very unaccomodating. this class was definitely more work that your average 4 unit class. would highly recommendtaking spanish with a different professor, there's a lot of great others in the department.
Her Spanish class was ridiculous and uncomfortable to be in. Awkwardness and intimidation during every class. I felt like I wasnt able to enjoy and have expressive conversations at all because of how strict the class was. In addition, Essays and reading questions were graded extremely harsh even when I read all of the chapters! Avoid this class!
Professor Barry taught a Spanish class that was too strict, unforgiving on grades, and rushed. Students dont feel welcomed in her class as they feel intimidated for their mistakes. All assignments were graded under a microscope for ANY errors whatsoever, so unfair for language learners. Quantity over quality for assignments. Would not recommend.
Hard grader on essays, enthusiastic in class and wants to help you, though.
