Best professor I've had at UCSB. She is so nice, so understanding and just smiles all the time. She really treats the students like her colleagues and is so respectful. Also, brilliant scientist and knows so much about her field. Really, the perfect professor.

Hands down the best class I've taken at UCSB so far.Really interesting lectures, and Kathy really cares about her students and wants them to succeed. Test material is mostly lecture based and focuses on understanding concepts and being able to draw conclusions from what is presented. Study well and you'll do fine. Improvement considered for grades!

Kathy Foltz is hands down the best professor I've had at UCSB. If I could do it over again I would take every class that she taught. She's the nicest professor on campus and truly cares about her students. I can't emphasize enough that you want to take a class with her.

Kathy is one of the best professors at UCSB I've ever had! She genuinely cares about her students and tries to deviate from some of the straight-memorization techniques Biology classes often employ. Her class isn't hard if you keep up with the problem sets and readings. Clear, concise, and excited about science. Great teacher!

Kathy was a fantastic teacher. One of my favorites at UCSB. She really know's what she's talking about and breaks down difficult concepts so they're much easier to grasp.

Kathy is definitely my favorite professor at UCSB. She is incredibly helpful and fair. Development Biology was an especially cool class because she is constantly using cutting edge research (like published a week before)! She not only does great research but is also a great educator!

She wants everyone to succeed. Question sets and old midterms are very helpful in getting a feel for the types of questions she'll ask on the exam. Not the usual regurgitate info class. Loved this class. Honors section was great too!

Best professor I've had in 4 yrs of biology! She's very helpful, answers email [freakishly] quickly, and provide everything you need to do well in her class. Very clear in lecture, goes slowly for the students, and tells us what will be on the exam. Her exams are long and based on concepts, but totally do-able. She cares a lot for the students!

This class was really hard at first b/c she focuses a lot on experimental techniques used in dev. bio but once you get the main concepts it gets easier. very conceptual class, very little memorization. reading the textbook helped me understand the exp. tech. a lot. she makes you read scientific papers 4 each test, can be very tricky & boring

kathy is one of the best professors at this school. she is very clear and is interested in the material she teaches. she teaches on a conceptual level, so all those who use flash cards probably wont do to well. i now work in her lab and she is also a lot of help working in lab!

Dr. Foltz was a great teacher and her lectures were interesting and stimulation despite being at 8am. She is an extremely fair grader and doesn't try to trick you on exams. Do the study sets, review your notes and old exams and you'll do fine.

Best teacher I've ever had, anywhere. She teaches you how to think, not what to memorize. She expects you to care and to want to learn, and if that's the case she'll bend over backward to help you. Less sympathy for slackers. She's clear, friendly, and a total expert.
