Prof. Freudenburg was the best teacher I have ever had in my life. His lectures were always followed by applause from students. His passion for trying to open the minds of young people shown through in how he attempted to expose you to the "bigger picture" of environmental issues. I was fortunate enough to be in his final class. He will be missed.
I was lucky enough to have taken my first environmental studies lectures with Professor Freudenburg during my freshman year. Because of him, I was able to see past the textbook and into the real world of which he spoke with great passion. Freudenburg will surely be missed as one of the greatest professors, and people, ever to have taught at UCSB.
Dr. Freudenburg was a special soul. He received applause after each class. He broke out in song on occasions. He could bring you to laughter and tears in the same lecture. UCSB and the world will miss this kind-hearted, generous and wise man. Rest in peace professor.
I am so blessed and honored to have had him as my professor. He always tied everything into real life situations. His words will always linger in my life. Freudenberg, you will be greatly missed.
Rest In Peace
Professor Freudenburg was an incredible human being. At his memorial a colleague mentioned that he always wanted chili peppers on this website. His brilliant mind and true compassion will be greatly missed.
Freudenberg is Stoic, If you are a freshman looking for a an interesting class that will helpfully welcome you to college, take this class, you will learn a lot and learn from one of the most respected environmental scientist to ever study es
AMAZING! People applaud at the end of every lecture. A great speaker and great powerpoints. You need to go to class to understand the lectures. Half the material on tests come directly from lectures. Great class, not too hard, but extremely interesting. He is very funny, charismatic, and engaging.
great teacher. people clap at the end of his lectures
He's a boss.
This teacher is phenomenal. Best yet is that he's going through a lot of personal ordeals and he still manages to be my favorite class and favorite teacher ever. I got an A- with no effort at all (I didn't show up to class a lot, I didn't read either book, and I didn't do the EC), but I still loved going to his lectures. TAKE FREUDENBERG!!!
extremely interesting. don't know if he will teach next quarter, but if he does it is well worth your while to take a class from him.
Amazing professor! He knows his stuff and most lectures are interesting. Attendance is mandatory to understand the material even though he posts up his lectures. I didn't really read the books and still got a C+/B-. The essay and exams were alright. Overall, I'd recommend this class to anyone!
interesting lectures, easy-ish class. paper wasn't too bad, tests were pretty easy. drops lowest test grade. provides a new perspective on environmentalism. i'm glad Cadillac Desert is on the reading list. he told us he had cancer at the start of the quarter, hope he pulls through!
i took Enviromental studies my fall quarter of freshmen year, it was a pretty easy b+ but you had to go to lecture in order to understand his theories which were both original and entertaining for the most part.Besides a few sleep-inducing lectures the class overall was good and worth taking as a GE
Wonderful class, wonderful professor. Freudenburg is extremely intelligent and passionate about what he teaches. I took the honors section, so I got to know him better and he truly is a great guy. The subject matter is very interesting also.
He gives very good lectures. He's also a very good lecturer, which keeps the lecture interesting. He buys scantrons for you for exams.
Really great professor. Very interesting subject material and puts lecture notes online so don't bother trying to copy them in class. Two midterms and one final all worth 100 points but he drops the lowest so it's not even necessary to take the final if you do well on the midterms. I definitely recommend the class!
Freudenurg is a great lecturer, and his slides are well organized. Don't bother trying to take notes becuase he moves too fast to copy everything down and all the info is online. This class is great intro to environmental issues and the problem-solving techniques necessary to solve them
Freudenberg is a great professor, always willing to help and such a nice guy. ppt lectures hard to copy, so just listen in class and go over his powerpoints later online. tests pretty easy, always multiple choice. buy first textbook (catton) but don't bother getting the 2nd one (cadillac desert). TAs all very informed and helpful as well.
Freudenburg is probably one of the best lecturers at UCSB so I would recommend going even though the slides are online. He drops the worst score out of the first two midterms and the final which is a big bonus because some people don't have to take the final! I read Overshoot but did not read Cadillac Desert and still did fine.
He is the best! His lectures aren't mandatory, but extremely interesting so i went to all of them anyways. Section IS mandatory. Also, he drops your lowest test score out of 2 midterms and 1 final, which is really nice. he's a really nice guy and an amazing professor.
This guy is great, he loves the material he teaches, and he is funny too! Attendance is not mandatory for the lecture, but you cannot miss the discussion or else you lose a significant amount of your grade. But he makes me love the material even more than I already did. 10/10
If you're into environ. studies, you should like him. He has ideas that you probably haven't heard before, and his lectures are interesting. You do have to do a fair amount of studying for a good grade, however.
