He's really passionate about Godard and even though he speaks randomly and tends to ramble, he is extremely knowledgeable. If you need help ask. Read his handouts, readers because they help!
Worst professor I've ever had in four years at this school. I don't understand how he has such high ratings. Confusing, incoherent, and unstructured. I've never gotten so stressed out from a class, I was literally throwing up from both class and workload. Never finishes his thoughts from lecture and expects too much of students. Avoid at all cost
The best teacher I've ever had; he will change the way you think about film. I had him for 148AC (color) and 148PF (puzzle films). He's brilliant & one of our most famous professors. Class is midterm, final paper, take-home final & you have to be a good writer. Go to office hours and you'll get an extension. He's eccentric and crazy but the best!!

What a treat to have Prof. Branigan as a teacher at UCSB. Highly recognized scholar, author of 2 important books in the area. Great teaching style, rare sense of humour, immense knowledge and endless passion... The Best teacher ever!
Brilliant beyond words. I remember being intimidated the first few days and wanting to drop the class but he grew on me and he is the best professor I have ever had. Passionate, unorthodox, and charming to no end. If you attended his lectures, it would have changed your life.
Great Prof. a little hard to pass his class if you do not go to his office hours. Group studying is a must if you intend to pass with an A or B.

He only teaches difficult classes, but once you get in the rhythm of his teaching, he's one of the best. He's freakin' hilarious.

Hands down, THE most brilliant man I've met. For those who trash talk both him and film theory... you probably have no appreciation for philosophical thought and shouldn't belong at UCSB Film School.
This guy is hilarious! Anyone who says he is boring just doesn't get his sense of humor. He turns a pretty boring subject into something understandable, relatable, and actually funny.

If there is a harder professor out there, I would be surprised. Talk about no structure, cohesiveness or coherence in a class. The goal of the class is totally unidentifiable, and the material is absoute bullshit. Not recommended with Branigan!
