Goes pretty fast in lecture but is quite accommodating in grading and answers questions whenever asked. Midterm & final were both fair. Material definitely gets tougher towards the end of the course, it is essential to stay on top of the work and not fall behind. HW is graded but he drops the lowest score. If you have a good TA the class is doable

Very unclear lectures. Talks and writes super fast and expects people to immediately understand what he is going over. Tends to spend more time on easier material, then flies past complex topics. Only got through class because of the TA.

Don't skip lecture, its the only way to know what you need to know. Homework is lengthy and worth 30% of your grade. Practice midterms and finals are the most important, they are nearly identical to the actual exams. Hes a nice person and understanding, will drop assignments and give extensions pretty often. Not hard but gotta put in the work.

I really struggled in this class because of how disorganized he is

So bad, genuinely so bad. Lectures make no sense and you have to teach yourself everything. Homework always has tech issues that aren't notices until they are alr due. expects you to understand everything after he says it once. goes deep into examples but doesn't explain his work. lowkey so bad never take again.

His handwriting could be hard to read sometimes but he posts the notes on canvas and clearly tells you what to know for the exams. Practice exams are very similar to midterms, worth a lot of your grade, but he drops ur lowest. He is very caring and always answers questions thoughtfully

Fine course for calc 1, teaches pretty much by examples and will elaborate more if needed. Yeah just good, pretty plain class. If you can the practice midterms without a problem, your are a guaranteed at least an A on the exams

Overall not too bad, would definitely take again. Lectures were honestly a little hard to follow sometimes, but I would watch videos outside of class to grasp concepts better. Tests are very similar to practice tests so if you do those then you are set. Professor Lam means very well and is very nice, wants you to succeed.

Hard to pay attention during lecture. Often skipped over key details for a class that requires going over refreshing previous material, jumps back and forth between topics and is generally hard to follow. I recommend taking notes as clearly as you can. Grading scale unclear. TAs are lifesavers, and you should ask as much as you can. Go to CLAS.

The content isn't hard but the way he teaches is confusing. He explains topics in roundabout ways and teaches solely through examples. The tests are exactly like the practice tests. Some of the problems are word for word the same and you can use a cheat sheet for midterm and final. He's nice and accommodating, his lectures are just hella confusing

If you actually want to learn Calculus, DO NOT TAKE THIS COURSE. Teaches solely through examples and doesn't explain theorems. Backtracks frequently, unorganized, and takes a very roundabout way of teaching. Grading system is cool though. Attendance and book aren't necessary.

Extremely clear expectations for exams and grading. Some lectures could have been planned and rehearsed a little bit, but mistakes were understandable for a newer instructor.

Couldn't understand a thing in lecture. Disorganized and hard to access. I think we all had a general confusion every time he spoke in lecture. Midterm and final were graded very lightly, if it weren't for that I would not have passed. Homework is alright just a lot of questions. Not the worst ever.

Very unorganized canvas, pretty bad at explaining topics in depth. Only good part about his class was he drops your lowest midterm score and considers a curve if necessary.

He is kind of disorganized and his handwriting is hard to read. Exams are worth 80% of your grade, though he drops your lowest midterm score. Also, he likes complaining on Canvas announcements but is pretty chill in office hours.

I'm definitely not a math person and struggled a lot with Professor Lam. He's pretty funny and personable but he explains topics in weird ways and would sometimes just solve a problem incorrectly. I honestly never showed up to section but if I would've I'm sure I would've gotten a higher grade.

Lam seemed to really care about helping his students learn. There were some technical issues with the homework and he made sure everyone got 100% on those homeworks. I think he explained the concepts pretty well, but I had also taken calculus before in high school. Tests were very reasonable.

He is a really nice professor and drops lowest midterm and homework grade however his teaching methods are confusing as he goes back and forth on problems and examples.

Very willing to answer questions and make concepts clear within lectures, but at times he goes fast which is a little difficult to follow. He is helpful and accessible, and nice with final grades (curved the average final course grade for Math 8 up to an 80).

He teaches strictly through examples which can be nice because his tests are like his lectures but if you want a solid foundation for the concepts, then you have to teach yourself. He doesn't really teach you step by step or give you solid definitons. But he is kind and very lenient and will always help you.

Really friendly professor, easy to talk to in office hours and within class. Listens and implements feedback and is very generous when it comes to grading. Cares a lot about the class and made learning the material engaging and fun!
