Lovedddd Nikki, would've gotten an A+ if it wasn't for me taking comm 89 at the same time, super chill professor!
I took her for COMM1 and now COMM178 as a 3-week class. The class structure was well-organized and excellent to learn. She was always willing to bring up examples if students needed clarification. I'm straight-up devastated that it is her last time teaching at UCSB; I'm crying so hard on the floor rn :( P.S. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TEACHING
Really liked Truscelli's lecturing style. Engaging and clear. However, its seems like not all the TAs graded on the same scale and their grading criteria was different from what the professor outlined in her rubric. Also not clear on the deadline for contesting a grade, so submitted request too late. 2 easy MCQ online exams and 2 difficult papers.
Took Comm 1 for my pre-major requirement this winter. Nikki was such a passionate lecturer I couldn't help but want to listen to what she said. She always had good feedback and answers to questions. We had our midterm and final online and two five-page papers toughly graded by TAs. Just take good notes and you'll do well!
I 100% enjoyed COMM1 with Nikki! Though I had a rocky start for the first two weeks, I worked my way up to earn a good grade. The TA section was required for attendance. I had it at 8 a.m. (It helped me gain focus, lol). It is a very straightforward and basic class as a GE or Pre-Communication requirement.
Nikki really cares about her students and whether or not they understand the content. She'll always be willing to give feedback on papers and thesis statements. There is a one use 48 hour extension to use on one of the two papers. Midterm and final were both online and taken through Canvas.
took this as a 3 week summer class. it was really fast, but i learned a ton. she is super passionate and knowledgeable about the subject; as well as compassionate and understanding, especially when you communicate with her. we did have a group project, but she gave us plenty of class time to work on it. would definitely take another class with her
Currently in the class and have mixed feelings. Her TAs are the absolute worst ta's I've had in my undergrad. She is an amazing professor who is extremely kind and passionate. Unfortunately, both of her ta's are VERY harsh graders. It's ridiculous how terribly they grade. I would love to take her class again but will not if she has the same ta's.
One of my favorite professors at UCSB. Open, inviting, intelligent, gives you great feedback on your work. A couple papers a quarter that truly creep up on you, so start them early. Interesting curriculum and a truly caring professor that wants you to succeed. I would take any of her classes twice over!
Great class, great professor. I took her 8 am & attendance wasn't mandatory. The final was super straightforward and the two essays are really what make up your grade. Would definitely recommend it. The prof is also extremely compassionate and understanding if you need an accommodation.
Great professor and a simple class outline (2 papers and 1 MC final). Papers aren't too bad as long as you understand how to do a proper lit review. Very straight forward/easy MC final. Only negative thing about her class is the 8 AM time and the minimal room for error because there are only 3 assignments.
The class consists of two papers and a final exam. While it's a good class, I have found that she lacks on providing enough material to write our papers. Each lecture summarizes a dark side topic, but not enough to write 5-6 page essay. I'd still recommend this class but make sure to save notes from interpersonal comm to do well on your papers.
Nikki is a great professor. She is very relatable and kind and caring and class content is very easy to absorb. HOWEVER, the grade is based on two papers with loose guidelines and one exam so depending on your TA it will likely be hard to get a solid A in the class. Very interesting class, just wish the papers weren't graded so harshly by the TAs.
I love love Professor Truscelli. I was in her first class at UCSB, COMM160HC and absolutely loved her. She truly cares about her students and wants you to succeed, her class isn't hard but the material is interesting and you learn a lot. I love her so much I've taken her for 3 quarters in a row. If you get the chance, take her!
Currently taking Nikki's class and she has been amazing so far. Her lectures are very engaging and she encourages students to have great discussions in class. Her material is very relevant, and it just feels like you're in therapy and it really makes you think about your own personal close relationships.
Nikki is one of the most caring professors I have come across at UCSB. The material taught is relevant to present day and can be used to help better understand your life, while learning about theories. Its hard to put into words just how understanding she is and what a great teacher she is. She is responsive to emails, and approachable.
I loved professor Truscelli and her lectures! The class felt like therapy most of the time, and I enjoyed the exercises we practiced as well. We didn't have any tests or quizzes, so the papers were graded heavily by the TA's. She's a great listener and wants everyone to succeed in her class, I would definitely take her again.
Nikki was a new professor at UCSB when I took Happiness Comm and she will always be one of my favorites. You can tell how passionate she is about what she teaches and it makes it easy to pay attention and listen/learn. Grading was mainly based of essays, but they were not too bad and she gave plenty of time to complete these. 10/10 professor
