As you have already read about this professor, he really cares for his students. The class may be hard, but he is always willing to listen, so don't hesitate to ask for help when you need it. Even though attendance isn't mandatory, it is essential to attend his lectures and sections. His lecture notes are helpful, and I wish I read them more.
Review his lecture notes and practice exams for the midterm and final. A lot of problems are based on integral calculation, so definitely review that. Professor Lin is nice and willing to give extra credits and curves. Do not need to worry too much about the grade.
This professor is the best. He goes at a steady pace--unlike most professors who write fast and hope you get math. He will occasionally ask if people are confused, and when no one responds he doesn't just keep going, he goes over things in detail because he knows silence means everyone's confused LOL. His exams are straight forward so ez A.
One of the best professors in math department. He is not a tough grader at all. More than half of the class get A or better.
Very easy exams. Lectures are just copying down lecture notes though.
Great lectures! Over Half of the class got an A.
Lin is the best math prof in ucsb I've ever seen!!! The course material is a bit hard, but Lin gives clear and logical explanations for every concept and plenty of examples with super legible handwriting. Lectures and sections are not mandatory. Exams are easy and most of the questions come from lecture notes or hw. Highly recommended!!
One of the best math professors at UCSB. Lin cares about his students, and is supportive. He even changed his grading in the end of the quarter to everyone's benefit. Recommended to all of my friends, and they all love his class.
He missed an entire week of lectures, which contained a lot of information on our final. The class average on the midterm and the final was very poor, which reflects his teaching. Instead of curving the final like he did the midterm, he ended up slightly curving the overall grade in the class, which wasn't helpful at all.
Went to Prof Lin for office hours and he was SO HELPFUL. great professor, really cares about teaching. Answers questions during lecture thoughtfully so everyone can understand the difficult concepts. Also uploads his notes to gauchospace which was very nice for days I had to miss lecture. would definitely recommend math 3a with prof Lin.
Best professor ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Take his class no matter what!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
great lecture, very good at answering questions, straight forward tests with questions from the lecture notes
The best math lecturer I have met in UCSB. There are many questions on test come from homework. Do homework carefully and then you will success.
Best professor at UCSB.
Choose Professor Lin hands down the best professor Ive had. Go to class, pay attention, fill in the notes he provides, study the notes, and you will get a good grade! Most of the the questions on the midterm and final were in his notes. The course itself is just hard in general but Professor makes it so much more bearable for his students. Fav prof
Probably the best math professor I have had so far my two years at UCSB! Very caring, accessible, and even changed his grading criteria to help students who scored low on the midterm. Easy lectures/lecture notes to follow too!
There are lots of concepts in this class, but he gave clear explanation and examples to help understandding. Professor Lin is very patient and concerned about students. His lectures are very clear and easy to follow and he would say what related to the exam. He's the best math professor in UCSB!! : )
