She has a clear personal influence she shares in class, some was good, some was bad, at the end of the day, it's night.
The CUMULATIVE final was diabolical and structured to not let you earn an A, you have to have a DEEP understanding of everything mentioned over the course. The class itself involves INSANE amounts of abstract thinking which is great but it correlates poorly to assignments (more difficult to interpret what prof. wants you to do).
Genuinely sold my soul to barely succeed in this class.
Probably the worst film class I've ever taken. Mandatory lectures forced to sit through with AI generated slides, not related to readings, and if there is content that does related, it's quickly passed over. Week 7 changed our final from 10% to 25% of our grade due to lack of planning from her. Don't take this class with her if at all possible.
Changed the final from 10% to 25% after the midterm. The content in this class is interesting I will say. Shout out to my TA who taught me more than the professor. Good luck to anyone that has to suffer through this poorly taught class.
Just try your best.
I thought the material for this class was actually very interesting but the course structure made it unenjoyable to learn. Lots of pop quizzes, mandatory attendance, both of which can't be made up even if you're sick. She changed the syllabus late in the course and the final consists of multiple choice, paragraph definitions, AND multiple essays.
She's working against you. Not a class structured to allow students an A. Changed the syllabus week 7 for the final exam to be worth 25% instead of 10%. Mandatory attendance lectures with really confusing and muddied pop quizzes and she flies through the seemingly AI generated slides like there's no tomorrow. The readings are extremely long.
Professor Sakr was not good. This course was one of the most difficult college classes I've ever taken. She bombarded students with material every week making it extremely difficult to keep up with the pace of the course. Her lectures consisted of Chat GPT made slides, quick scrolling, and reading off her iPad. I would never recommend this course.
lwk zero empathy professor. heavily relies on how ta will grade, so it's not entirely her fault, but the pop quizzes are insanely confusing and it's definitely her trying to trick students. not sure why you would make a required film class this hard for students to succeed bc some peopl might have to retake this
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!! She makes lectures mandatory and will call you out using her microphone in front of the whole class if you dare to leave early or come late. She does pop quizzes every week that are based off of the long readings and her lectures don't even make any sense. The midterm/final are extremely difficult and she could not care less
Don't take FAMST 70 if she is your professor. Lectures are mandatory but almost nothing in the lectures are relevant to the learning itself, it's 90% bragging about herself and politics and 10% discussing readings, the parts that did matter she skips through fast. Doesn't actually teach media criticism just spouts about AI and Arab media mostly.
This professor clearly has a lot of knowledge in her field, but god is she the wrong person to teach such a key course that you NEED to take for the major. I have never experienced more confusion and disconnect in a class -her lecture slides don't match what she actually says, she flies through them at lightning speed, and barely connects readings.
FAMST 70 - This course is poorly structured and not designed for students to get an A. The lectures are not digestible for different types of learners and the pop quizzes are not an accurate way to determine if students do the readings and watch the films. She changed the syllabus week 7 of the class making the final 25% instead of 10%. Bad.
FAMST 70 All of the lectures are just the professor reviewing the readings she told you to do before the lecture. Pointless to go, but if you can't not cuz sm of ur grade is attendance. Also the threat of pop quizzes looms over ur head so u can't not do the reading before lecture even tho all she does in the class is explain it. boiiiii if u dont
FAMST 189FT was one of the best courses I've ever taken at UCSB. Learning about cyberfeminism was a lot of fun. Sakr was kind and caring, and we were given many opportunities to learn about feminist theories of technology. We had weekly readings and a collective final project, which wasn't hard. I would recommend this course to any other student.
