I took her online class and you will get an A as long as you do all of the work. She is clear with what is required and actually responds to all of the discussions (unlike other online classes that I have taken at SBCC). There were no exams, just a big project at the end of the semester where you write a manual.
This professor works in her field and has a huge amount of information available to those who ask. This is not a tough class, but you can get a lot more out of it by asking more questions and following through. This professor cuts through mysticism about writing and gives you the real, practical deal on how to do it well. The focus is on writing.
I would like to start off by saying this font is NOT a Serif font, something that would displease Holms greatly. With that being said, take this class. My colleague and I spent about 3 hours on the entire course outside of class-time. If you follow the rubric exactly, you will get full credit on the assignments. Don't buy the reader or the textbook
One of the easiest 4 unit classes you will ever take in your 4 years at UCSB. Her class is a total joke and is not intellectually challenging whatsoever. There are no tests and as long as you know English at above a 9th grade level you'll be fine. You do have to write a bit but she gives you a long time to do it. Oh and don't buy the reader.
Extremely easy class. Assignments don't take long at all, and she gives you feedback on rough drafts so it's pretty hard to screw your final drafts up. Attendance is mandatory. Go to class. You'll get out early half the time. No midterm or final. Final project is long but you work on it all quarter. Don't waste your money on the reader.
1010 would recommend. She's like the lovely old white grandma you never had. The class itself is a lot of work, but she's a pretty easy grader and genuinely wants to help you understand the material. She's very strict on formatting and syntax, but pretty lenient on due dates and extensions. She's hella slow using the computer tho.
Great class! Consider she's a writing professor for a reason because she means business when she grades your paper! No sugar coating here! Tough grader, but makes sure you understand what you are doing and wants it done right.
I am taking this class to help with my online business. Another business professor said this about my midterm project for him: "Just graded it and I think you did a great job. It shows that you have been working on the technical writing. Would you mind If I used this as an example in future classes? "
Clear. Easy. Made a mandatory writing class bearable. Would take anytime.
Fairly easy-going class. Writing assignments every other week. Some assignments may be used in your final manual project! Although class can be super dry and boring, Holms is actually a professional technical writer and cares about the work you put in. She's chill if you're chill. She's delightful! Ideally, get a partner = 50/50 work split.
Easy class if you put in some amount of work. Do not buy the book or reader, both are useless. Easy small assignments but final project takes some time.
Professor Holms has a straightforward class. Come to lecture, do a couple of short homework assignments that all lead up to the final paper. She will teach you a lot and if you make an honest effort she will notice and give you a good grade. Try to get 109 ST with her.
Easiest class I've taken. She is very nice and willing to help. All of the assignments are quick and easy but the final paper takes a while. Just follow directions for each assignment and you'll get an A.
Super agree with the comment below. Her lectures are boring easy stuff. I wouldn't recommend this class/professor. She has an attitude sometimes and plays favorites.
Holms is an easy grader when it comes to the simple assignments. She was very critical on the user manual. I got 100 on almost all of the papers and ended up with an A-. She likes things written her way and does not accept your point of view. Office hours are helpful. Dont buy the textbook. The reader was useless too. Okay professor overall.
Pretty easy class, juts do exactly what she asks and as long as you can write ok you should be fine. individual work can be redone and she averages the grades. Business plan was a lot of work but nothing horrible Definitely recommend taking this class with her. dont buy the books u never use it and its at the library the 1 time u need it
Easier than high school, but lectures are boring as sht. Business plan is a ton of work but it's not hard by any means. Just pray that you don't end up with a group of retards.
She is a really easy grader and always lets you rewrite your papers for a higher grade. You never use the text book. Overall she is a really nice lady I suggest you take her class.
If you want an easy A, take her. If you want to learn something useful, don't. Simple as that. I felt like a 3rd grader for most of her class. Probably the hardest part of her class is showing up every day (she takes attendance)! Do every assignment on time and you'll end up with an A on GOLD and a good report template you can use in the future.
Great class! I learned how to become a better writer and Ann is awesome and super helpful! Ann allows re-writes and grades very fairly as well as allows you to pick your own topics to write about so it's fun and interesting!
take this professor
Really great class! Holmes is a really amazing teacher. Believes revision is an important learning tool so she let us rewrite some things. This is an especially helpful class for engineers.
--Extremely good teacher
I had to take this class as a bus-econ major, and let me tell you she is the easiest teacher you will get for this class. As my peers were getting graded hard, all she really cares about is if your work is completed and on time, and you iwll get an easy A or B.
