Can't tell if the material itself was insanely hard or if he didn't explain it well... Lim was really nice and tried his hard to explain things in O.H. but it felt impossible to get. Midterm was easy, he said most ppl got an A there, final was crazy hard (even with curve). Weekly section quiz was easy, but lectures are unclear and very fast paced.
Professor Lim is a tough professor, but he is very accommodating if you have issues with homework or tests. His tests do not have any surprises and are straightforward. He is very knowledgable
Lectures were necessary but he posted all notes online which was very helpful. Homework is all on webwork which takes a while but isn't too challenging. Midterm and final weren't that hard but he barely curves. He has a thick accent but I love his enthusiasm and personality
Test are pure memorization and during lecture he will often be confused by his own notes and have to pause for several minutes to figure things out. The class material is hard but doable if you spend a lot of effort studying lectures and homework which I did not.
Excellent professor. The material is difficult for sure, but Prof. Lim really cares and tries his hardest to help you succeed. Tests are largely memorization-based, which is unfortunate, but the grading criteria is really generous in my opinion.
Math 117 is a hard course with abstract concepts. However Lim really did a great job to help His lectures are clear and he is also willing to clearify any point. Always reachable during office hour and is the most patient professor I have ever met. Trust me, he is the man who leads you to upper division math.
It's a hard course, but his tests are pretty easy because they are just repetitions of the homeworks and the lecture notes, which means you only need to memorize for preparing the test. He gives a good curve in the final grade calculation!
The class is abstract for sure, but Lim explains things in an understandable way and is always willing to explain your questions. If you work hard on homework and lecture notes, you can get an A without difficulty.(though he made the midterm time really short, he managed to curve up, so no worries!)
Avoid! Completely inexperienced, not many good things to look at. His teaching did come across to me at all, and his midterm was ridiculous-- the average was something like 35%!! Even if you need a class he's teaching I would highly recommend pushing for another quarter because there's a solid chance you will fail his class.
Took this class during winter 2021. I was gonna give him a one star because of how bad the midterm was. But he made the final much more bearable, giving less questions with double the time. He gave plenty of time to finish the homework (more than a week for each). His explanations weren't the best tho.
Literally hate this class. I should have just waited next year to take it because his lectures are hard to follow, the homework takes HOURS to finish, he doesn't know how to explain the math problems, and literally doesn't tell us any specifics about the midterm or final. The TA's don't even know what he's doing. SAVE YOURSELF THE PAIN.
as a person he's really sweet, esp in office hours. however, his lectures don't make that much sense. our midterm was 20 multi-part questions and our final was 22, which he changed from 30 after student concerns. our midterm avg was 65ish, so he curved it up to 82, and is not planning on curving final. tests very similar to hw (webwork style)
Don't take his class, his teaching, his accent, his final are awful. There is no way you can finish that 30 long, nerve-wracking problems in 3 hours. DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS.
Horrific instruction, easy homework, which was cool until his psychotic final, which was 30 multipart questions in 3 hours.
Can barely understand his lectures and also he does not write his materials. He reads off what has been written already and does not show how to work the problems step by step.
Terrible. He cannot explain concepts clearly. Since his lectures are too confused, I have to spend much time learning by myself after classes. The final is much more difficult than the homework and the midterm. Do not take his classes.
This guy is terrible, hard understand, very inconsiderate. Will not extend assignments or make any accommodations for students that have serious illnesses or have situations come up. Also refuses to curve, please do not take him.
He focuses much more on formal definitions than physical/spatial meanings of concepts. A lot of his material is disconnected from each other; each video covers a different topic that is seemingly unrelated to the next. The class feels like when youre surfing Wikipedia pages about math. 40 (long) Webwork problems that are unrelated to the material
DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASSES!
His pronunciation is terrible. I don't know what he is talking about. His class is disorganized. I have no idea why he is capable of teaching this class.
I don't read books, I don't go for Khan academy, so I don't know what I have learnt throughout the course. I don't know why concepts are used. The homeworks are dissimilar to what he taught in class; of course, there are a small portion of homework reflect what he taught. Anyway, I don't know what he is teaching though I learnt really hard!
He's new, so I will cut him some slack. If you have a lot of time and like to learn concepts by yourself, then take him. There's a big learning curve in the beginning, which is exacerbated by the fact that he uses hard terminology/symbols. Expect to learn by yourself, lectures are sometimes inaccurate, ONLY take if you have the time/NEED the class.
He's painfully new. This class is manageable if you want to teach yourself through Khan academy and Paul's online notes. If you have the chance to take a different prof, do it. His handwriting isn't legible and his explanations are weak. Lectures are useless, feedback is subpar. Homework is easy but it's minimal credit, very similar to tests though
Terrible professor. Most unorganized lectures I have ever seen. Never knows what he wants to say or write next, not sure if he knows what he is talking about. Brand new professor and clearly should not be teaching a tough calc course. Too much hw with no time to do it all. No sections and too many lectures in and out of sequence. Hard to understand
