HIST178A . 1 Year, 5 Months Ago

Professor Adams was one of the most-down to earth professors I've ever had. Lectures and readings were very interesting, and grading was fair. He is very knowledgable and passionate about the subjects he teaches and encouraged questions and discussion. Highly recommend going to office hours!

Prof. Adams is THE BEST! Take a class with him if you get the opportunity. He gives fantastic lectures and nearly the entire class is based on them; there's no outside research necessary for the final paper or the midterm (each worth 25%). I can't stress how knowledgeable he is + how much he just wants students to learn. Great man, great professor.

It was an interesting class and it was a good class until the midterm and final. I only think I got an A- because it was during the strike. If you are good at history and memorization you should be ok.

Professor Adams is a nice guy but his lectures weren't very interesting and he could go on tangents. He was very easy to access outside of class hours and very understanding. Midterm was an in-person paper. Section participation matters, and you can get away with reading the primary sources instead of the textbook.

He speaks quietly and very monotone during his lectures. The only assignments were a paper, midterm, and final essay but it really helps to read what is assigned every week to participate in sections.

Adams is very passionate about the subject matter and most lectures are very interesting historical narratives. He can be a bit monotone and/or hard to hear, but you can just sit near speakers or the front.

Makes lectures interesting and definitely knows what he is talking about. The tests and papers are not graded too difficult but be ready to read primary sources and 2 books. However the readings are interesting and the weekly questions are not too difficult.

HIST173T . 3 Years Ago

Prof. Adams seems like a really sweet guy, but his lectures were just so boring and didn't seem to have any structure. Oftentimes it was hard to know what I should be taking notes on, because his lecture was all over the place. I don't think I learned a single thing from the discussion sections either. Maybe the class would've been better in person

took both of his courses Hist 167CA and Hist 178A and were really interesting! Adams is super chill and very flexible. when all the capital riots were happening he legit cancelled the lecture and created a safe discussion space for students. Lots of readings, but if you can skim and understand the gist, it will be fine. simple assignments too.

I really enjoyed this class. The lectures were so interesting! He was also very understanding during this difficult time. Everyone should take a class with him, you'll learn a lot! There is a good amount of reading but you can skim. If you do the work and listen to lectures you'll get a good grade.

Youre gonna read a ridiculous amount and the class is going to be very boring. Literally no organization at all either. Cool guy though.

His lectures can be kinda slow, but once you go over them they're very well planned. He is extremely smart and knowledgeable, and he seems like a genuinely good person too. There were a LOT of readings (100pgs/week) but it wasn't all necessary to do well in the class. Interesting stuff if you're into labor history!

I am so glad I took a class with Prof. Adams. He is so knowledgable and easy to talk to. His lectures give you everything you need for the midterm and final prompts. He posts recordings of the lectures online with a lecture outline, too. Although the lectures can be a bit boring, the content and reading choices are so interesting if you do the work
