The lectures were terrible. He talked quiet and wasn't clear. What was expected in the course was not clear. It's sad this is what we pay for. I took an 8 am in person with him before covid and everything was straight forward.

It was clear this professor had near to none lecture notes as his videos were ramblings that were incomprehensible and often filled with errors. Would omit proofs and refer you to Rudin in which the proof was 3 lines of equations. One video he never completed and left the video running. You have to teach yourself which makes tests difficult.

IMO, Chen's lectures aren't the best. They are disorganized, he speaks rly slowly, he tends to skip small steps assuming that we already know how to do that part which just confuses me more. He also tends to make arithmetic mistakes. His tests are difficult but you can submit your work to get points back and he's pretty liberal w/ giving back pts.

My experience with this professor was his confusing and dry lectures with disorganized notes. He is poor at explaining questions during office hours, and makes arithmetic mistakes in his lectures.

Signed up for his class because of all the good reviews on here but man was I mislead. The lecture videos are downright unwatchable.. his pronunciation is hard to understand and he literally just does the problems from the book which explains them much more clearly. Terrible grammar and handwriting and SO SLOW. Only learning from the book.

The class was very organized. Lectures were a bit boring sometimes but he seems like a nice guy. Homework was minimal and he offered extra credit for using the forum on GS. Gave super helpful practice exams that were very similar to the real exams. Exams were a bit more difficult though, but he does give partial credit if you show your work.

Professor Chen is very nice and approachable. His office hours are helpful. His exams, however, are very hard but he does give back credit for showing work. His lectures can be a little boring sometimes.

Chen is not the most exuberant professor, but he wants his students to truly understand the material and do their best. Took the class online, and the midterm and final were very similar to the practice test that he gives out before each test. Engaging homework, clear lectures, organized grading scale. Chen is great, take him if you can!

Professor Chen is a very nice and shy guy. He gives us up to 4.5 points of total grades. If you choose to upload the procedures on Gauchospace, he will give some of your points back. If you study hard on it, get an A+ will be really easy. However, sometimes his notes are disorganized and sometimes confusing.

COVID, fully online. Professor Chens lectures are very helpful for understanding the course contents, although his lecture notes sometimes can be disorganized. He gives up to 4.5% of total grade extra credit if you participate in forum discussion. Practice midterm and final are very helpful, almost identical to actual test. Textbook optional

Although he isnt the best lecturer, he is one of the most fair math teachers. He was also very accommodating. If you do the hw and understand it, youll be completely fine for midterm and final.

Not sure why Huachen has amazing ratings on here, took his class remotely Spring quarter and literally learned nothing. Lectures were insanely dry and his notes were extremely disorganized and illegible. Hws were 10x more difficult than the problems he gave in the lecture notes. Midterm was laughably easy but his final was impossibly difficult

Best math teacher, Good lecture simple questions, 20 problems for hw a week, readable handwriting, extra credit for discussion forum. Simple exams, and if you explain to him your work even if you get a question wrong for the webwork online exam, typo, etc, he gives your point back.

This class should have been doable, but thanks to him it's not. He teaches the bare minimum then assigns lots of impossible homework to waste our time. Four days to go before midterm and I have learned absolutely nothing. Take with someone else if you can.

Prof. Chen's lectures are so good they make you want to go to his 8 A.M. He taught the concepts clearly and thoroughly. One of the most enjoyable classes at UCSB so far.

He is really an excellent professor. The lectures are clear and he explained all the questions patiently. The exams are easy and similar to the practice exams. He gives a lot of extra credits for the exams.

I LOOOOVED HIM. He always makes sure that his lectures make sense and he tries to simplify everything as much as he can. You can tell he cares about the students a lot. His tests are pretty easy if you study and there is a lot of extra credit offered. I would take him for every math class in the world if I could.

Very standard math class. Notes are clear, lectures are posted online, given a generous amount of time on final. Tests will be similar to practice/what you've learned. Friendly, great professor. Bombed the midterm but still got a freebie B+ , which is considered the low end.

I will definitely take his class again. The lecture is amazing and clear in explaining the concepts. He is really accessible after class and always patient to answer any questions. He held extra office hours before the midterm and the final. The exam question is exactly similar to the practice and it's easy to get a good score.

Accessible outside the class and explains well. He is willing to answer any questions and really wish you succeed in understanding the concepts. It is easy to get A as extra credit are given for the midterm and final.
