I presume I got an A, but this class made me work hard. Not a history major, so that may be the reason, but you have to memorize a bunch of IDS (full bluebook pg) and understand material enough to do a 3 pg essay (for MT). For final, old IDS + new IDS, plus 5 pg essay. **All memorized**. Corona made final takehome, but it is still brutal. Bouley <3
His lectures are packed with funny jokes and interesting tales from Medieval Europe that intrigue, inform, and impact students. There are readings and short essays every week (complete the minimum), a midterm (study guide provided), and a final in this class. Do the work, show up to class and section with a good understanding, and you'll succeed.
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. He makes lecture fun and is a genuinely caring and overall awesome person. Class had a midterm, two easy papers and a group project. He goes over exactly what he wants to see in the essays during lecture. I missed the first one & he met with me individually and let me redo after teaching me the material in his office hours!
I never thought I'd be interested in medieval European history, but my other class was so boring I said screw it. Best decision I could have made. Bouley's enthusiasm could make the most boring material extremely engaging. He's a young and energetic professor that knows his stuff and answers in class questions better than pretty much anyone.
Bouley is one of the best professors at UCSB and has a very good grip on how to communicate with his students. He provided outlines for each lecture during 4B which helped a lot when studying for those IDs. If you appreciate enthusiasm, as well as have no problem with paying attention/participation during lecture, Bouley will make sure you succeed.
Bouley is a fantastic, really encouraging professor who has interesting lectures and a great demeanor. I love his style, his feedback on assignments is helpful and he really encourages you to be a better writer, historian, and overall student! He is really funny as well. If you can, take him!
Professor Bouley is an insanely knoledgable and well spoken historian. His lectures were clearly organized and he makes sure that every piece of information in them are interesting and relevant to the Essays and Exams of his class. A Midterm and Final with ID's and Essay prompt with two five page Papers. A really fun class for anyone.
Excellent Professor. Younger guy, and very energetic. By far one of the best lectures in the department and at this university. Also, the way he breaks up lectures on one day and reading discussions on the other each week is amazing. Really allows you to get the context and discuss the sources without feeling rushed. You will not regret.
